It’s been a couple of weeks since Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and the pre-order deals for the new foldables are just about to end. However, we might already have a good idea of which model is emerging as the customer favorite.

According to Korean outlet FNN News, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is receiving more pre-orders than the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE in South Korea. The report states that the Fold 7 accounts for around 60% of pre-orders, while the Flip models make up the remaining 40%.

More people are pre-ordering the Z Fold 7 than the Flip this year

This is a sharp contrast from recent years, where the Flip series has consistently outsold the more expensive Fold. For example, last year the Galaxy Z Flip 6 made up 60% of pre-orders, with the Z Fold 6 taking 40%. The difference was even more significant in the Fold 5 generation, where the Z Fold 5 claimed just 30% of pre-orders compared to the Z Flip 5’s 70%.

Historically, this trend has made sense. The Z Fold series has almost always cost nearly double what the Flip models do, and Samsung’s book-style foldables have lagged behind Chinese competitors.

But with the upgrades packed into the Galaxy Z Fold 7 this time, like a slimmer design, wider cover screen, improved camera hardware, and it being the lightest foldable phone on the market, it looks like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has drawn more consumer interest. In fact, analysts are even expecting the new Galaxy Z 7 series to surpass the 1.02 million pre-orders achieved by Samsung’s 2023 foldables.

Of course, these figures are only for the Korean market, but given how substantial the improvements are over past generations, it wouldn’t be surprising if similar trends emerge in other regions as well.
