As we approach the end of 2025, anticipation for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series is reaching a fever pitch. However, before we see the new flagships sometime around February, Samsung is ready to unleash one of its entry-level A-series devices onto the US market.

I’m talking about the Galaxy A17 5G, which first made its way out all the way back in August of this year. At the time, the device wasn’t available in the US — that’s set to change starting January 7, 2026.

The South Korean tech giant announced the A-series device’s availability in a new blog post, highlighting the device’s decent specs for its low price tag of just $199.99.

For starters, it boasts a 90Hz display, which is more than what Apple’s base flagship from last year offers. The A17 features a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, which isn’t just great for everyday tasks, but also vibrant enough for streaming and light gaming.

Although affordable, the device is built to last, not just from the outside, but also from the inside. On the outside, the device boasts IP54 water and dust resistance, complete with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and reinforced polymer for the back cover. Similarly, from the inside, the Galaxy A17 will be able to keep up over the years, thanks to Samsung guaranteeing a minimum of six years of security updates and six generations of One UI and Android upgrades.

Ultra-level battery for $200

The device boasts a big 5,000mAh cell, which is the same battery capacity as the top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. If and when the big battery does run out, you’ll be able to quickly refill it up to 50 percent in roughly 30 minutes with 25W wired charging. 25W, that too wired, isn’t great by industry standards. However, for $199.99, we’re not really complaining.

The device features powerful AI features that most modern operating systems are known for, including Gemini, Circle to Search, and more, powered by the device’s Exynos 1330 processor. The device will be available in a single 4GB RAM/128GB storage variant.

The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G will go on sale in the US starting January 7, 2026. The way Samsung phrased it, it doesn’t look like the device will be available on Samsung.com. Instead, the device will only be available at “AT&T, T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Verizon, and Samsung Experience Stores, as well as retailers and carriers nationwide.”
