It’s long been known that Samsung’s One UI 8.5 will be the next major software upgrade for Galaxy devices. The software’s first beta went live yesterday for the Galaxy S25 series in a handful of regions, including the US. If you’ve been on the fence about One UI 8.5 beta so far, there’s now more reason to wait before you hit that install button, particularly if you use certain camera modes frequently.
According to reporting by SamMobile, the freshly released One UI 8.5 beta is missing Dual Recording and Single Take from the camera options. Typically found in the More tab of the Camera app, Dual Recording lets you record videos simultaneously using a combination of cameras on your compatible Galaxy device.
On the other hand, Single Take is a more versatile camera mode that lets users capture images and videos in multiple formats, including slow motion, collages, and more, effectively capturing multiple image/video types with a single tap of the shutter. While these two features may not be among the most used on a Galaxy flagship, their omission from the first One UI 8.5 beta is surprising (via SammyGuru).
SamMobile speculates that the company is likely working on improvements to Single Take and Dual Recording and has therefore temporarily removed these features. We certainly hope this is the case.
One UI 8.5 Beta 2 could bring these camera features back
While this is certainly not good news for Galaxy S25 users who have installed the One UI 8.5 beta since its release yesterday, the purpose of a beta release is to identify and iron out bugs and other issues ahead of a broader launch. Keeping this in mind, we wouldn’t be surprised if these missing camera modes are restored with the second beta.
Although Samsung hasn’t shared details on the rollout of One UI 8.5’s second beta, a leak suggests it could land exactly two weeks following the first beta, i.e., December 22. If this timeline holds, we may not have to wait long for these camera features to return to the Galaxy S25.
In any case, if you’re someone who hasn’t switched to One UI 8.5 on their Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, or the Galaxy S25 Ultra, it’s probably wise to wait another couple of weeks.
Away from these omissions, One UI 8.5 introduces a handful of new elements to Samsung’s software experience. Based on Android 16 QPR2, One UI 8.5 introduces new app icons, a new and customizable Quick Settings panel, plus improvements to a number of system apps.
