The Samsung Galaxy S26 is right around the corner. Based on current estimates, the phone should debut sometime in January or February, with multiple potential launch dates currently floating around. Thanks to the recent release of One UI 8.5 beta, we got a glimpse of what’s to come in terms of software features. However, it seems that Samsung hasn’t made all the software features available in the beta.
Leaker chunvn8888 on X claims there are “lots” of One UI 8.5 features that are hidden/disabled from the beta release, and we’re now learning about at least one of them: notification summaries. This feature will reportedly leverage Samsung’s Gauss AI model on the Galaxy S26, providing users with a summary of notifications from the past 24 hours (via SamMobile).
The leaker also notes that Samsung originally intended to release this feature with One UI 7, though it appears to have been pushed to One UI 8.5. It’s unclear what led the company to delay its arrival, but we’re glad it’s finally here.
Samsung will likely keep these features exclusive to the Galaxy S26 series initially, before bringing them to some of its older flagships subsequently. Phones like the Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 7/Z Flip 7 will likely be among the first to get the update.
Notification Summaries on the Galaxy S26 will be available in English, Chinese (simplified), French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Polish, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese languages, per the leaker. It will be interesting to see what other software features Samsung will have in store for the Galaxy S26. Hopefully, we’ll get more insights into Samsung’s plans in future leaks.
Not dissimilar to the Pixel’s Notification Summaries
Notification Summaries on the Pixel 10
If this upcoming Galaxy S26 feature sounds familiar to you, it’s because Google recently started rolling out its own version of Notification Summaries for select Pixel phones. Google’s phones have also picked up an AI-powered Notification Organizer that mutes certain types of notifications.
One would assume that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26-exclusive feature will work similarly to Pixel’s Notification Summaries. As we found in our experience with Google’s implementation, it can help reduce notification fatigue while also making users less likely to peek at every minor notification on their devices.
While Samsung’s decision to make Notification Summaries exclusive to the Galaxy S26 will disappoint existing flagship owners, a future update could change that. Meanwhile, Google’s Notification Summaries requires a Pixel 9 or Pixel 10 to function, with the Pixel 9a listed as incompatible.
