Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series isn’t upon us, but it isn’t too far away either. Like several of its predecessors, the upcoming S-series flagship is expected to be announced late in January or early in February, with the new devices expected to hit store shelves soon after.

Despite early rumors, the upcoming series won’t really look too different from its predecessors. We’re still getting the top-of-the-line Ultra model, paired with an S26+ in the middle, and a base Galaxy S26. The latter isn’t expected to carry a ‘Pro’ moniker any longer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the device won’t offer Pro-level upgrades.

Forget minor spec bumps — if new leaks are to be believed, Samsung could actually be slimming the base model down significantly.

For reference, the South Korean tech giant’s base Galaxy S25 measures in at 7.2mm in thickness. According to highly credible industry analyst @UniverseIce on X, via SamMobile, the upcoming base Galaxy S26 could measure in at just 6.9mm. That’s the same thickness as Samsung’s Z Flip 6.

On paper, the 0.3mm reduction might sound minimal, but in real-world application, the difference in what the device will feel like in-hand will be immediately noticeable.

The S26 might just be a Pro phone without the moniker

@UniverseIce shared the dimension alongside a diagram of the image, which also highlights a new camera island for the device. The base S25, for reference, features cameras directly protruding out of the device’s rear. The upcoming Galaxy S26 could instead opt for a Z Fold 7-like rear camera island, with the lenses embossed on top.

The rear flash appears in a familiar spot, though what’s more noteworthy is the circular ring highlighted right below the camera module, which clearly appears to be an integrated magnetic array for full Qi2 wireless charging support. The diagram doesn’t highlight a case, indicating that the device itself will feature built-in magnets.

If the base device features built-in magnets, it’s all but guaranteed that the Plus and Ultra models will too, marking the South Korean tech giant’s late-but-welcome adoption of native magnetic Qi2 charging. If this leak does turn out to be true, Samsung would be following in the Google Pixel 10 series’ footsteps, which, itself, is following Apple’s.

The South Korean tech giant’s upcoming flagship series isn’t too far away. We expect to learn a lot more about the S26 series over the coming weeks.
