While Samsung has already released multiple flagship smartphones this year, including the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and the Z Flip 7, the manufacturer is not quite done with product announcements for the year.
Samsung is expected to launch its first extended reality (XR) headset based on the Android XR platform soon, a development that we’ve been aware of for a while, although the timeline has shifted a bit since then. We’re now getting a closer look at the headset, codenamed Project Moohan.
The extended reality headset was on display at the Snapdragon Summit 2025 in Maui, Hawaii, this Tuesday, with South Korean publication The Elec sharing a couple of images to give us a closer look. Unlike most other appearances of the headset, we’re getting a decent visual of its rear portion, including the strap/band that will keep it in place when in use (via SammyGuru).
Not much longer to wait for Samsung’s first extended reality headset
We’re also getting a good look at the lenses that will be in place, but that’s about all we can see from these images. Neither Qualcomm nor Samsung has divulged any hardware-related info, though we do have a fair idea about what to expect at this point.
At the core of Samsung’s new headset will be the OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) display, purportedly supplied by Sony, with plans to also source these panels from Samsung Display in the future. Interestingly, Sony also supplies the OLEDoS panels for the Apple Vision Pro.
Qualcomm’s participation also means you get the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset on the Project Moohan device, with Google’s Android XR handling the software side of things. The headset will be priced between $1,800 and $2,900 at launch, based on a recent report. This should give the manufacturer a slight edge over Apple’s $3,500 sticker price for the Vision Pro.
Reports also suggest that the headset will be available in Samsung’s home region of South Korea (and potentially China) right after its launch, with other markets following suit later. As for the headset’s release, recent leaks indicate an October 21 launch date, so we don’t have to wait much longer to learn what Samsung has in store with its extended reality headset.
The Elec notes that executives from Samsung, Qualcomm, Google, Microsoft, and others will be present at the Snapdragon keynote today (September 24), so there could be some important announcements on the second day of this three-day Snapdragon Summit.
