Multiple reports suggest Samsung will revamp its Galaxy S lineup next year, dropping the Plus model in favor of a Pro variant and a super-slim Edge. But it seems the company is changing its plans at the last minute and will keep the Plus model around due to sluggish Galaxy S25 Edge sales.
The Elec, citing multiple sources, reports that Samsung has recently started development on the ‘M Plus,’ also known as the Galaxy S26 Plus. The company initially planned to launch only the S26, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra in early 2026. However, with the S25 Edge selling below expectations, Samsung has reportedly decided to keep the Plus model alive for another year. That means it could launch as many as four S26 models in 2026.
Apparently, the Korean company only plans to produce around 300,000 units of the S25 Edge between September and December. That’s considerably lower than the 500,000 units it will produce for the S25 Plus in the same time period. The other two models in the S25 lineup — the S25 Ultra and the standard S25 — are seeing much higher demand, with Samsung planning production of 3.4 million and 2.9 million units, respectively.
The Plus model has consistently seen the lowest demand in Samsung’s flagship lineup. For 2025, the company reportedly set internal shipment targets of 17.4 million units for the S25 Ultra, 13.6 million for the base model, and just 6.7 million for the S25 Plus.
Given the low demand for the S25 Plus, Samsung had hoped the S25 Edge would outperform it. That was reportedly why it planned to drop the Plus model in 2026. However, with S25 Edge sales slipping after the first three months, the company now appears to have reconsidered its strategy.
Uncertainty looms over the Galaxy S26 Plus
Samsung should unveil the Galaxy S26 lineup in about four months from now, in late January or early February. That’s not enough for the company to restart development on the S26 Plus and launch it alongside other members of the family. If anything, the company must have already finalized the components and vendors for its upcoming flagships, and they should enter mass production by late November or December.
So, despite the report claiming Samsung is working on a Galaxy S26 Plus, wait for more sources to confirm its existence. It also does not mention anything about the S26 Pro, which has even been detailed in leaked CAD renders.
