While there’s typically some excitement around Samsung’s new One UI updates, the same can’t be said about the One UI 8 release. After its initial rollout on the Galaxy S25, Samsung commenced the rollout of the Android 16-based update for its older phones.
However, we saw Samsung pull the One UI 8 update for devices like the Galaxy S22, followed by the Galaxy S24, and other midrange Galaxy devices earlier this month. It now appears that the Galaxy S23 series has also made it to this ever-growing list, as revealed by a user on X/Twitter (via SammyGuru).
Much like the past couple of times when Samsung had to hit pause on One UI 8, there’s not much info on what bug may have led to this decision. However, based on some of the comments from our readers, it appears that battery drain may be one of the prevailing concerns following the One UI 8 update, at least on devices like the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S22.
Will Samsung add other devices to the list?

Samsung’s community page has a complaint about the Galaxy S23’s One UI 8 update from two weeks ago, while a user on Reddit is pointing out issues with the secure folder.
But we’re not seeing widespread complaints related to the One UI 8 update for Samsung’s early 2023 flagship. However, it’s evident that the company has identified a glitch serious enough to take a big step like this. Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy M53 was also a casualty of this update fiasco this week.
As it stands, Samsung has resumed the update for the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22 Plus, while owners of the Galaxy S22 Ultra are still waiting. Given that the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy S23 series was released in late September, most users will likely have updated to the latest software by now.
There’s not much you can do if you’re in this situation, apart from waiting patiently for a separate update that may address any potential issues. Here’s hoping we don’t see a repeat of this with One UI 8.5 next year, which is slated to be a bigger upgrade than One UI 8.
Have you witnessed any bugs with One UI 8 on your Galaxy S23 so far?
