It’s official. Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event is scheduled for July 9th, and the company is expected to unveil its new foldable hardware for 2025. If you’re a fan of the company’s Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold series, there’s plenty to look forward to.
Alongside its flagship foldables, Samsung may unveil a more affordable clamshell device, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, which will compete with the Motorola Razr 2025.
There have been plenty of leaks and rumors outlining Samsung’s upcoming devices, meaning you won’t have to wait until Unpacked to find out what to expect. Here’s everything we know about the trio of new devices coming at Galaxy Unpacked next month.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
Meaningful changes and an Ultra experience
Samsung faced criticism for its lack of innovation with the Galaxy Z Fold series, which lags behind the innovation seen with foldables overseas.
Last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE was a step in the right direction, giving long-time foldable fans the meaningful changes they had been waiting for. Leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will build on the improvements made with the Z Fold 6 SE.
Leaks and dummy units spotted in the wild suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature a 6.49-inch outer display, compared to the 6.3-inch external screen on last year’s model. The wider outer display will be a welcome change for many, providing extra typing space and making the external screen more useful.
As a result, the internal display also receives a size increase to 8 inches, up from 7.6 inches. It’ll bring the Galaxy Z Fold series more in line with other foldables, such as the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Oppo Find N5.
Under the hood, I’d be shocked if Samsung doesn’t equip the Z Fold 7 with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. I also expect 12 or 16GB of RAM, though given Samsung’s promise of an Ultra experience, the latter makes more sense.
It’s still unclear whether Samsung’s press release was referring to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or perhaps an Ultra variant, but any flagship experience must start with a Snapdragon 8 Elite.
It’s rumored that Samsung is making the device thinner this year, but it’ll come at the expense of battery size. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to feature the same 4,400mAh cell as the outgoing model, without an upgrade to silicon-carbon battery technology.
I understand that the Snapdragon 8 Elite is a more efficient chipset, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra experienced year-over-year battery life improvements despite no increase in battery size. However, it’s disappointing that Samsung wouldn’t find a way to pack a larger cell into the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Besides a larger cover display, the other major complaint Samsung received over the Galaxy Z Fold 6 was its cameras. Some users felt they deserved a flagship camera experience, given the high premium they were paying.
The company promised a better camera system in its teaser announcement, so I’d expect at least the 200MP primary sensor we saw in this year’s Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung used a 200MP sensor in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE, so it’s likely we’ll see the same here.
Even though One UI 7 continues its rollout, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to debut with One UI 8, Samsung’s version of Android 16. Samsung overhauled its software, so I wouldn’t expect any significant changes.
Galaxy AI should play a larger role on the Z Fold 7 this year, with Samsung hinting that its AI software will enhance the user experience. While that remains to be seen, it’s safe to assume Now Brief and Samsung’s Now Bar will make an appearance.
As has become standard, Samsung will most likely promise seven years of One UI upgrades and security patches for the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
New rumors suggest that Samsung’s foldables will see price increases across the board in 2025. Leaked overseas pricing reveals higher prices for the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.
We’ve seen different pricing structures in other markets before, so it’s not guaranteed that US prices will increase, but it’s still a concern.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7
A larger cover display and a new chipset
A more expansive cover display is significant on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but rumors suggest the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will get an even bigger glow-up.
After years of lagging behind the Motorola Razr’s larger outer screen, Samsung is expected to match it with a 4-inch external panel of its own on the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Samsung may be late to the party, but it’s rumored to be making enhancements to the layout.
The Motorola Razr cameras obscure a portion of the cover screen. Leaks and renders appear to show Samsung fitting the cameras closer to the edge to minimize obstruction.
It’s unclear what the company plans to do with Good Lock, but it would be excellent to use more apps on the cover screen without requiring additional steps.
The most talked-about change with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is its rumored chipset. Unlike other Samsung flagships this year, the Z Flip 7 could be powered by an Exynos 2500, rather than a Snapdragon 8 Elite.
I’m sure the inclusion of an Exynos will cause consternation among the vocal Samsung faithful, and I don’t expect the new chipset to benchmark as well as the Snapdragon 8 Elite.
However, clamshell folding phones are about the experience, and a Snapdragon 8 Elite might not be needed in a device like the Z Flip 7.
I’ll take a wait-and-see attitude towards performance, as I was pleasantly surprised by the Exynos 2400e. As long as the Exynos 2500 isn’t plagued by overheating and performance is snappy, there shouldn’t be any problems with Samsung electing not to use a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
While 16GB of RAM is possible to match the Motorola Razr Ultra, I expect the Z Flip 7 to come with the same 12GB as last year.
Samsung hasn’t made a habit of changing battery sizes this year, so I anticipate the Z Flip 7 featuring the same 4,000mAh cell as its predecessor.
While similar battery sizes haven’t been an issue thanks to the more power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite, it remains to be seen how efficient the Exynos 2500 is. So, while I didn’t have problems with battery life on my Z Flip 6, that’s not a given again this year.
There haven’t been many leaks regarding the cameras on the Z Flip 7. It’ll most likely feature a dual-camera setup, but we’ll have to see if Samsung makes any improvements to the 50MP primary sensor and 12MP ultrawide camera from the Z Flip 6.
Given Samsung’s focus on improving the cameras on the Z Fold 7, it’s not unreasonable to assume the company might make some effort to improve the sensors on the Z Flip 7.
As with the Z Fold 7, the Z Flip 7 is expected to debut with One UI 8, with a healthy dose of Galaxy AI and seven years of promised support.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE
A less expensive clamshell with a familiar design
A fresh face is expected to enter Samsung’s foldable lineup during the Galaxy Unpacked event. Extensive rumors over the past year have hinted at a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, a more affordable clamshell variant of the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Although it may be a new phone in the lineup, its design will be familiar. Rumors suggest Samsung will use the same design as the Galaxy Z Flip 6. It means the Z Flip 7 FE will have a smaller 3.4-inch outer display, but we’ve seen this before on more attainable phones, such as the Motorola Razr 2025.
A lower price means a different chipset for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and it would make sense for Samsung to include an Exynos 2400e. I anticipate Samsung pairing it with 8GB of RAM, which should give it roughly the same performance as last year’s Galaxy S24 FE.
I have zero reservations about the Exynos 2400e, as it has performed beautifully and proven to be power-efficient.
With a similar form factor, the battery size is expected to be roughly 4,000mAh, identical to what we saw in the Z Flip 6. Cameras might also mirror last year’s Z Flip 6, with a 50MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultrawide lens.
Pricing will be interesting, as leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will fall between $700 and $800. That price range would make it competitive with the Motorola Razr 2025, and the Z Flip 7 FE would boast a more powerful chipset and more years of software support.
