It’s the end of the road for Samsung’s Galaxy Note lineup for good. The company’s last Note phones — the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra — launched in August 2020. Based on Samsung’s promised software support timeline, these phones were scheduled to receive updates for five years. And that time is now finally up.
Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 20 series running Android 10 and One UI 2.5. While the company discontinued the Note lineup the following year, it continued to roll out software updates for the Note 20.
As part of its software update guarantee, the Note 20 received three OS updates, with the Android 13-based One UI 5.1 update landing in early 2023. Since then, the phones have only been getting security updates. But even that chapter is closing, as Samsung’s promised five-year support window has now expired (via @SamMobile).
This means going forward, the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra will no longer receive monthly or quarterly patches. Samsung may drop a surprise security patch, much like the Galaxy S20, which received a surprise July 2025 security patch three months after official support ended. Still, a surprise patch wouldntt change the fact that regular support has ended.
If you are still rocking a Note 20 Ultra, you might consider upgrading to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, especially since it features a built-in S Pen. There really is no other direct replacement for the Note 20 otherwise.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 reach end of life, too
Besides the Note 20 lineup, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 are also no longer supported by Samsung. These foldables launched in 2021 with Android 11 out of the box. Since then, they have received four OS updates, with One UI 7-based Android 15 being the last big one.
As long as your Fold 3 or Flip 3 works well, there’s no rush to upgrade, since these phones are already on Android 15. If issues crop up, though, consider getting the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Pixel 10 Pro Fold, both of which pack significant technological improvements over the Fold 3.
