Foldable phones have come a long way, but there is still considerable scope for improvement, especially in foldable display technology. And when it comes to the foldable display panel, Samsung is currently a major global market player, as it has always been ever since the introduction of the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series.
Not only did shipments and mass production make Samsung one of the leading companies in this space, but also the innovation in display technology. Last year, the South Korean tech giant significantly reduced the crease on the Galaxy Z Fold 7‘s display. If that wasn’t impressive enough, it has now made a foldable display with no visible crease.
Samsung has showcased its first-ever crease-free foldable display
Samsung has dropped plenty of interesting announcements so far at this year’s CES, which will continue till January 9. But for foldable fans, nothing so far has been as exciting as Samsung’s showcasing of its first-ever foldable OLED panel with no visible crease. The company hasn’t talked about it extensively in a press briefing; instead, it showed the panel to a select few journalists.
One of them is Max Jambor. Luckily, they also posted a video showcasing what Samsung’s first-ever crease-free foldable display looks like. It’s too early to judge the display, but the latest foldable panel from Samsung looks solid in the video posted by the journalist. Another prominent tech enthusiast and leaker posted a couple of photos on their X account, comparing the latest display with the one used in the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
As you can see in their X post, the crease isn’t visible on the latest foldable panel. This doesn’t come as a complete surprise, though. Last year, famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Samsung would use “laser-drilled display metal plates” to make a crease-free display for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8. Apple is reportedly using the same technology to make the display of its first-ever foldable iPhone crease-free.
Max Jambor also confirmed that Samsung will use this crease-free display on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 by putting the caption to the video that reads: “Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Display at CES.” If this is true, crease is unlikely to be the deciding factor between Apple and Samsung in the race to become the best foldable phone of 2026.
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 sometime in July or August, while the alleged iPhone Fold is expected to debut sometime in September this year. So, we won’t have to wait long for comparison.
