Samsung’s summer Unpacked event has officially concluded. The South Korean tech giant officially announced the latest Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 flagships, paired with the first-ever Fan Edition foldable.

There’s also the Galaxy Watch 8 series, which marks the return of Samsung’s ‘Classic’ watch variant, paired with a new version of the Galaxy Watch Ultra.

All the new devices can be pre-ordered today, and will be available widely starting July 25th.

The latest foldables will ship with Android 16-based One UI 8 out of the box, and it will power at least one software feature that we’ve never seen on Samsung’s Flip line before.

Samsung’s DeX mode has long been prevalent in the South Korean tech giant’s Fold lineup, but it has never made its way to Samsung’s clamshell line due to heat management concerns. That changes with the latest Z Flip 7.

No DeX for the Z Flip 7 FE

As highlighted by Samsung in its Z Flip 7 announcement post, the foldable will support DeX, though its vague phrasing left uncertainty about whether both wired and wireless modes would be included. According to reliable Android analyst Mishaal Rahman (Android Authority), though, both wired and wireless DeX will work on the Z Flip 7. The latter, however, is still limited to external displays with Miracast support.

Considering that the new Z Flip 7 FE is based on last year’s clamshell foldable, it is likely to have identical thermal concerns. As a result, DeX doesn’t seem to have made its way to the Fan Edition foldable. This should also quell any speculation about DeX mode landing on older foldables in the Flip line.

Elsewhere, judging by Samsung’s blog post, it looks like users will have to unfold their new Z Flip 7 to be able to use it in DeX mode. Regardless, the inclusion does mark a leap forward when it comes to productivity and multitasking capabilities that Samsung’s new and upcoming clamshell foldables can offer.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is a compact, pocket-sized AI phone featuring the largest-ever 4.1-inch, edge-to-edge FlexWindow and the slimmest design in the series yet. It packs a flagship-level 50MP camera and the largest battery ever in a Galaxy Z Flip, delivering powerful performance and enhanced AI functionality directly from the cover screen.
