RoboForm and LastPass are both fully featured password managers, but RoboForm is simply better. Both utilize secure encryption protocols and come with a wide range of features, but unlike LastPass, RoboForm has a perfect record of keeping customer data private.

Both options include all the basics, from seamless auto-fill and auto-save to a strong password generator. Each offers multiple 2FA options and secure password sharing as well.

Once you start considering extra features, RoboForm stands out. It has a fully customizable form-filling tool, a local storage option, and bookmark storage. LastPass doesn’t have any of these.

Most importantly, I simply wouldn’t trust LastPass with my sensitive data. In 2022 it faced a massive data breach that exposed user data to criminals, and it’s even been alleged that millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrency was stolen as a result in 2024. RoboForm has never reported a security breach.

I compared RoboForm and LastPass to see if there was anything that LastPass did better. While LastPass does some things well, it isn’t as good as RoboForm, even if you disregard LastPass’s history of breaches.

RoboForm vs. LastPass — Quick Overview

Security & Data Privacy — RoboForm Has a Stronger Track Record

Regarding security measures, RoboForm and LastPass share a lot of common ground. Both password managers come with:

• 256-bit AES encryption. As of 2025, 256-bit AES encryption has never been cracked. It’s used by governments, companies, and banks around the world.
• Multiple 2FA methods. This feature makes it so you need more than just a master password to access your account, preventing unauthorized access.
• Zero-knowledge protocols. Both password managers are set up so that not even employees can access user data.
• Account recovery options. This means there are secure ways to get back into your account even if you forget or lose your password.

As far as 2FA options go, RoboForm offers email, SMS, TOTP (authenticator apps like Google Authenticator), and biometrics. LastPass doesn’t support email 2FA, but it does allow you to use security keys like YubiKey. I’d like RoboForm to include security keys, but it still has some pretty good options.

RoboForm offers 2 recovery options. If you register an emergency contact, you can go through them to get back into your vault and then change your password. Alternatively, with biometrics enabled, you can scan your finger to access your vault even if you’ve forgotten your master password.

LastPass has biometric account recovery, but instead of an emergency contact, you can get back into your vault via SMS or a one-time code. Personally, I don’t like SMS recovery. It’s relatively easy for someone to hack into or access your phone physically. If that occurs, they can request an SMS code granting them access to your vault’s passwords.

However, despite LastPass having a lot of 2FA and recovery options and a zero-knowledge protocol, the history of its data breaches lingers. The breach allegedly led to criminals stealing cryptocurrency from LastPass users and compromising countless accounts. For now, I just can’t trust LastPass with my personal data.

Basic Features — Both Have Useful Features For Managing Passwords

Both RoboForm and LastPass have a pretty strong set of security features, including:

• Unlimited password storage.
• Password sharing.
• Password auto-fill and auto-save.
• Password generator.
• Unlimited device allowance.
• Multi-device sync.
• Identity and payment storage.

Regarding password auto-fill and auto-save, LastPass and RoboForm worked consistently in my tests. RoboForm’s vault might look outdated (especially in the desktop version), but it has some nifty features that many competitors lack. You can create multiple “identities,” which you can use to fill out standard web forms. This is great if you have multiple email accounts or want to add a family member’s information. In addition to passwords and identities, you can save addresses, credit cards, private notes, and more.

LastPass isn’t much different. Your vault can store the same kinds of information, but it doesn’t have a flexible identities feature like RoboForm.

RoboForm’s password generator is highly customizable and lets you create passwords up to 512 characters long (good luck guessing that one if you forget it). I also like the option to create passphrases made up of actual words. LastPass can’t generate passphrases, and its output only goes up to 99 characters, but realistically, that’s more than enough for an impossible-to-crack password.

RoboForm’s password sharing is also more dynamic. While LastPass lets you share one-to-one with others, RoboForm lets you create and share multiple folders with their own permission levels. It gives you finer control over your passwords and lets you create and share multiple folders simultaneously.

Advanced Features — RoboForm Contains Many Excellent Features

RoboForm and LastPass have a decent amount of advanced features, including password auditing, dark web monitoring, and emergency access. RoboForm has a few more unique tools than LastPass, but both products are generous with extra features.

RoboForm has a unique bookmark feature, which will automatically sync your bookmarks across all your devices. It makes it easy to find important information and is particularly helpful when sharing data during collaborations.

That said, my favorite advanced feature is RoboForm’s infinitely customizable form-filling tool. It allows you to save strings of complicated or unique data into your vault (and have this information automatically filled in when you encounter a similar form on the internet). LastPass only offers a more limited set of templates.

I really like that RoboForm can automatically fill in your credentials on desktop apps and websites. This is possible because RoboForm offers a desktop app for Windows and Mac computers. Privacy-conscious users will also appreciate that RoboForm allows you to store all your data locally rather than in the cloud. LastPass has a desktop app, but I couldn’t get it to fill in app logins, and there’s no local storage option.

To its credit, LastPass comes with up to 1 GB of secure file storage and the ability to restrict access to your LastPass account from countries of your choice. The secure file storage works great at protecting otherwise vulnerable files but doesn’t offer unique features like RoboForm’s bookmarks.

Finally, both options will check whether your email addresses have leaked onto the dark web. LastPass monitors emails associated with all of the accounts stored in your vault. RoboForm, on the other hand, monitors up to 5 email addresses and provides real-time alerts. Neither offers extensive monitoring for other types of personal information.

Apps & Browser Extensions — RoboForm’s Extensions Are Highly Intuitive

RoboForm offers web and desktop apps for Windows, Mac, ChromeOS, and Linux. It also has extensions for Chromium browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, and Brave. Finally, there are mobile apps for Android and iOS. It’s worth noting that RoboForm’s Android app works great on Chromebooks (something you can’t say about most competitors).

The desktop app has a somewhat out-of-date UI. It’s a little clunky and could use a serious face-lift. I much prefer the web app and browser extensions, which include nearly every feature the desktop app has. The extension includes auto-fill and auto-save, a password generator, emergency access, and more. The design is modern and intuitive.

LastPass has similar offerings, including a desktop app, a web app, and browser extensions for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. Even a total beginner will have no problem navigating the UI and using every feature. The desktop app is also easier on the eyes than RoboForm’s, but it doesn’t have an easy way to auto-fill logins for desktop programs.

Both options include fully-featured mobile apps for Android and iOS. Each mobile app includes important features like password storage, auditing, and sharing. It is tough to pick a favorite here since both products work well on various platforms.

Ease of Use & Setup — Both Options Are Intuitive

Setting up RoboForm is extremely simple. All I had to do was navigate to the website, click the download link, and respond to a few prompts. RoboForm offers universal installers for Windows, Mac, and Linux. These will automatically add the extension to every browser installed on your device.

LastPass was just as easy for me to set up. Like RoboForm, the universal Windows installer added the extension to all my browsers in moments. This took longer on MacBook Pro as there is no universal installer. I had to manually add LastPass to each of the 3 browsers I use (but it wasn’t a big deal).

Both choices launch tutorials as soon as you install the respective app. This makes learning the ropes very easy for first-time users.

The process of importing my passwords was easier with LastPass. This is because LastPass supports direct password importing from several other password managers. With RoboForm, you must create a .CSV file and add it to your RoboForm vault. This is slightly more involved, but RoboForm provides step-by-step guides on how to do it for every major password manager and browser.

RoboForm’s features are all very intuitive and easy to use. It’s true that the desktop app has a slightly outdated UI, but that doesn’t mean it’s overly complicated. The password generator is very customizable, but every setting is clearly labeled.

Most of that is true for LastPass as well. LastPass does have a more modern UI, but appearances aside, LastPass isn’t hard to use. It also annoyed me that its mobile authenticator isn’t integrated into the main password manager app. That said, I think LastPass’s in-app tutorials do a better job of introducing new users to the software.

Plans & Pricing — RoboForm Is More Budget-Friendly

RoboForm and LastPass are affordable, with plans for businesses, families, and individuals. Each offers a 30-day free trial as well as a free plan.

RoboForm’s free plan includes numerous features, including unlimited password saving, 2FA, auto-fill and auto-save, a password generator, and password monitoring.

If you opt for a paid plan, you can choose between Premium (1 license) and Family (5 licenses). You can pay with Discovery, Mastercard, Visa, and other options like Union Pay and PayPal. Both plans are available as 30-day trials and backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee.

LastPass’s free plan includes unlimited passwords, 2FA options, 50 MB of file storage, and even basic dark web monitoring. You can even share unlimited passwords with one other user of your choosing. LastPass has a slightly better free plan than RoboForm, but its premium options are much more expensive (and LastPass doesn’t offer a money-back guarantee). The only clear way LastPass stands out is by giving families one more license than RoboForm.

In terms of pure affordability, RoboForm is a clear winner. Its plans start at roughly 1/3rd of LastPass’s price, and it comes with more features. LastPass offers one more license for its premium plan, but you could buy 2 RoboForm Family subscriptions for only slightly more than you’d pay to get a single license for LastPass.

Customer Support — RoboForm Responds Faster

RoboForm and LastPass both have options for email, phone, and live chat support, plus they both have a fairly in-depth help center with FAQ’s and manuals/tutorials. Since they both offer identical choices, I had to determine which one has faster response times and more helpful agents.

LastPass has a fleshed-out FAQ and plenty of troubleshooting guides, including step-by-step tutorials for first-time installation and common problems. RoboForm had user manuals for its products and detailed FAQs, but I think LastPass’s FAQ answers had a little more depth. And unlike RoboForm, LastPass has a fairly active forum where you can find the answers to many questions.

However, once I started chatting with each company’s support agents, RoboForm emerged as the better pick for technical support. I emailed both password managers’ support teams and compared their response times. LastPass took about 5 hours between responses, while RoboForm almost always responded in less than 30 minutes during normal business hours. Needless to say, RoboForm has a more responsive support team.

When I used the live chat, I had a shorter wait for a RoboForm agent (by a margin of a few minutes, to be fair). Once connected, RoboForm and LastPass’s representatives were highly knowledgeable and responsive. That said, LastPass’s live chat is fiendishly difficult to find — it’s almost as if the company doesn’t want you to use it.

Overall, both password managers offer a good range of support options. LastPass has a forum while RoboForm does not, but the latter is superior in response time. Ultimately, I think RoboForm is the better password manager if you’re encountering technical difficulties. That said, I had a good experience with both companies’ phone and live chat agents. I just wish LastPass’s live chat service was easier to access.

RoboForm vs. LastPass: Overall Winner

RoboForm was the better antivirus when I tested and compared the two. It comes with everything that a good password manager needs, including 256-bit AES encryption, zero-knowledge infrastructure, password sharing, password auditing, and passkey support. LastPass has the same features but has suffered serious data breaches and is substantially more expensive.

On top of having the basics well covered, RoboForm also has advanced form-filling abilities, dark web monitoring, cloud backup, and multiple 2FA options, including biometrics and authenticator apps.
