If you go to the Google Play Store and type Duo in the search box, the first result you’ll get after the sponsored item is Google Meet. It isn’t surprising because Google killed off Google Duo as a standalone app and merged it with Google Meet way back in 2022.
As a result of the merger, Google Duo found a new home inside Google Meet, but its only purpose was “legacy calls.” However, a couple of years later, the Mountain View tech giant announced that it’d kill Duo’s legacy calling support in the Google Meet app come September 2025.
Now, we have one more twist in the tale, as Google seems to have pushed back its plan to kill Duo entirely. It looks like Duo calls will survive a few more days in the Google Meet app, and we now know when it’ll be killed for good.
You’ll have to wait a few more months

Folks over at Android Authority first spotted a new warning message in the Google Meet app on Android, showing an updated timeline for when Duo calling will be retired. Instead of September 2025, it now says January 2026. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as users get more time to export their call history and video messages from their legacy calling account and message settings.
If you care about those pieces of information, you must export your legacy call history before January 2026. The company hasn’t specified a date, but don’t delay it to January, because the export option won’t be available after the demise of Dup calling in the Google Meet app, and you’ll lose your call history and messages.
Meet calling will replace Duo calls in the Google Meet app. But before the transition happens, you can go to the Settings of the Google Meet app and then navigate to Calling (legacy) > Legacy calling account > Manage legacy calling history and tap the Export legacy call history option to export all your call history. You’ll be able to copy in plain text or in .CSV format.
You won’t miss the legacy Duo features much, because you’ll find alternatives for most of them in the Meet app. For example, you can use video lighting adjustment, on-device screenshot, and Meet saver mode instead of legacy features like low light mode, Moments, and data saving mode. Meet calls will also offer features like live captions, screen sharing, raise your hand, stackable effects, cloud encryption, and more.
