RecordPause brings an iOS 18-style video recording pause button to the Camera app on jailbroken devices

Starting with iOS 18, iPhone users can finally tap a pause button to temporarily suspend video recording in the Camera app while in the middle of capturing video. They can then easily resume video recording to build upon the existing video file instead of making an entirely new one.

If you’re jailbroken, then chances are you aren’t using iOS 18. That said, if you’re feeling a little jealous about the feature right now, then you might find solace in a newly released and free jailbreak tweak called RecordPause by iOS developer PoomSmart.

Just as the name implies, RecordPause adds an iOS 18-style pause button to the video recording interface in the iPhone’s Camera app on pre-iOS 18 firmware. In fact, it looks almost the same as it would in iOS 18 and appears in the same place.

The screenshot example above depicts the pause button just underneath the regular record button on the right side of the app. Tapping it while video recording suspends video capture, while tapping the button again resumes video capture. All the ensuing video footage goes into a single video file, so you don’t need to combine them later.

Considering how on the rise vlogging and video recording activities have been in recent years, having these powerful video recording tools at our fingertips means we can spend less time in post-production and spend more time capturing video in the field, especially when you don’t need to make edits and you’re just sharing to social media.

More complex video recording projects can obviously still benefit from post-production, as this is by no means a replacement for that.

Those interested in giving RecordPause a try can download it for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via their favorite package manager app. We tested the tweak on a jailbroken iOS 16 device running the Dopamine jailbreak, which indicates that it works with the rootless environment. It may also support other firmware versions. There are no options to configure.

If you’re not already using PoomSmart’s personal repository, then you can add it to your package manager app by using the URL provided below:
