RaiseLight disables raise to wake on the iPhone when the flashlight is turned on

Raise to wake is a feature of the modern iPhone that I’ve come to know and love. But there are obviously times when I don’t really need this feature, such as when I’m using my iPhone as a flashlight.

RaiseLight.RaiseLight.

iOS developer Ichitaso’s RaiseLight jailbreak tweak is a free add-on that simply disables the iPhone’s raise to wake feature when the rear-facing flash is being used as a flashlight, and I think it’s a great tweak.

For one, if I’m searching for something with my iPhone’s flashlight, possibly in a strange body position and at various angles of attack, it’s possible that my iPhone’s sensor will notice it’s being ‘picked up’ and wake my iPhone’s screen up. I don’t really need this, nor does anyone else.

The tweak also disables tap to wake in an effort to prevent accidental taps from waking the display while the flashlight is turned on.

You can easily wake your screen while the flashlight is on by pushing the sleep/wake button, so it’s not like you can’t use your iPhone. The raise to wake feature simply won’t cause any false positives, resulting in odd behavior when it’s unnecessary.

Another thing to consider is that using your rear-facing LED flash is already a battery hog in its own right, so who really needs their display coming up because of raise to wake when it doesn’t need to be? That’ll just worsen the problem.

As soon as you turn your iPhone’s rear-facing LED flash off and stop using it as a flashlight, RaiseLight recognizes this and re-enables the natural raise to wake functionality so that you can use your iPhone as it was designed again.

With full rootless jailbreak support as of version 1.1, which Ichitaso released just this afternoon, you can now use the tweak on the latest jailbreaks, such as Dopamine and palera1n for iOS 15 and 16, and on the latest devices.

If you’re interested in giving the RaiseLight jailbreak tweak a try, then you can download it for free from Ichitaso’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app.

Do you think it’s a good idea to disable raise to wake while using your iPhone as a flashlight? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
