Software updates are a welcome part of owning a device for the most part, bringing new features, better stability, and even enhanced security in some cases. Although, on the flip side, we’ve seen plenty of times when software updates do a ton of damage, making apps and hardware unusable.
The latter seems to be the case with the latest Android Auto update, coming in as version 15.2. 9to5Google reports that many users are reporting that the Quick Controls feature is no longer working, or it is unavailable after the update. Well, to be more precise, the option is there in the menu system, but it no longer does anything.
It’s not happening to everyone
We know that the 15.2 update has been around for a little bit, and while there were initial reports of this problem, it seems to be more widespread as we’ve had a few more weeks with the update. But as 9to5Google reports, it’s unclear whether this is something intentional on Google’s part, or just a bug in the code.
However, the latter is more likely, considering that someone from the Android Auto team chimed into a thread in order to get more information about the issue. What’s curious is that doing a deeper dive into the subject, this is something that’s happened before to some people way back in 2024.
Unfortunately, that’s pretty much where the trail ends, as most posts online didn’t talk about a resolution, and we’re just left with dead ends. So if you’re dealing with this issue now, there’s only going to be a couple of options available. You can either deal with what you’re experiencing and wait until there’s a proper fix, or if you want to take matters into your own hands, you can always roll back to an older version of the app.
The latter will allow you to resume daily use of Android Auto and have it work just like it was before. Just make sure to disable automatic updates so that you won’t be upgraded to version 15.2 automatically. It’s probably a good idea to do this if you rely on Quick Controls frequently, or just want things to go back to the way they were.
