Pwn20wnd updates Unrestrict library, bringing us one step closer to a full-fledged A12(X) jailbreak

Pwn20wnd’s unc0ver jailbreak tool supports all iOS versions from iOS 11.0-12.1.2 and most iOS devices in between, but it only partially supports A12(X) devices at the time of this writing because of reasons that we outlined in a piece published earlier this week.

Two of the most significant roadblocks that have prevented a full-fledged A12(X) jailbreak from surfacing are that Cydia Substrate needs to be updated with compatibility for these devices and that Pwn20wnd still needed to update Unrestrict library for sandbox patches on arm64e devices. Fortunately, the latter is no longer a problem as of today.

In a Tweet shared just this afternoon, Pwn20wnd revealed that he had successfully updated the Unrestrict library for arm64e devices and tested the bulk of it on a virtualized iPhone XS with iOS 12.1.2:

The virtualization aspect is key since the hacker recently
boot-looped his physical iPhone XS test device during testing, and it should
ensure that Pwn20wnd can continue jailbreak development unhindered for a long
time to come.

Now that Unrestrict library is mostly ready for arm64e
devices, the community is only officially waiting on Saurik to supply a minor
update for Cydia Substrate. Once it’s released, Pwn20wnd can test the rest of
Unrestrict library and incorporate all of it into an updated uncv0er beta
release.

There’s still no ETA for when Saurik might update Cydia Substrate for the remaining subset of devices, but with Pwn20wnd inching ever so close to releasing his updated jailbreak, we can only imagine that it won’t be long now.

The latest version of unc0ver is v3.0.0 beta 48, with the
latest official release being unc0ver v 2.2.6. Notably, the unc0ver v3.0.0
pre-release is the only version of the tool that supports iOS 11.4-12.1.2.

As always, you can support the development of unc0ver via Pwn20wnd’s
PayPal or Patreon, both of which are linked in the
official Github page
.

jailbreak? Let us know in the comments section below.
