Pwn20wnd updates unc0ver jailbreak to v7.0.2 with iMessage bug fix for iOS 14.5-14.5.1

It’s Halloween evening, but a dedicated Pwn20wnd just took to Twitter to announce the release of an updated version of the unc0ver jailbreak tool.

In the announcement Tweet, Pwn20wnd said that unc0ver had been updated to version 7.0.2 with iOS & iPadOS 14-related bug fixes. Specific examples of which bugs were fixed weren’t provided in the Tweet, however Pwn20wnd appears to have updated the change log on the unc0ver.dev website to say that unc0ver v7.0.2 fixes iMessage issues on iOS & iPadOS 14.5-14.5.1.

The unc0ver jailbreak has been at the epicenter of jailbreaking news for about a week after it became the first public jailbreak to incorporate support for Linus Henze’s Fugu14 untether for arm64e handsets (iPhone XS and newer) running iOS or iPadOS 14.4-14.5.1.

The current implementation of the Fugu14 untether doesn’t change the fact that unc0ver is still a semi-untethered jailbreak, but it’s worth noting that the untether works as a mechanism to keep the unc0ver jailbreak app signed indefinitely, which removes the user’s dependence on a computer and AltServer to re-sign the unc0ver jailbreak app every seven days.

Our step-by-step tutorial shows you how to install the Fugu14 untether with the unc0ver jailbreak using AltStore v1.4.8 or later, and you can read more about the untether and how it’s being used by unc0ver in our in-depth analysis post.

It’s possible that the unc0ver jailbreak (along with others such as checkra1n and Taurine) could be updated to become fully-untethered jailbreaks by way of the Fugu14 untether in the future. It’s also possible that the Fugu14 untether could be updated to support older versions of iOS & iPadOS 14 in addition to arm64 handsets (iPhone X and older). It will likely take a bit more time for those developments to materialize, and so jailbreakers are advised to stay patient as developers work behind the scenes.

In the meantime, those currently taking advantage of the unc0ver jailbreak tool are advised to update to the latest version, as bug fixes can only serve to benefit the end user. Unc0ver v7.0.2 is available as a free download from the official unc0ver.dev website, and you can find help in our step-by-step tutorial for installing the unc0ver jailbreak via AltStore.

Please note that the unc0ver jailbreak supports iOS & iPadOS versions 11.0-14.3 on all devices and 14.4-14.5.1 on arm64e devices only.

Have you updated to the latest version of the unc0ver jailbreak yet? Let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
