Google is releasing a major firmware update for the Pixel Buds Pro 2, bringing some useful new features. Version 4.467 is starting to appear on devices this week, with upgrades designed to make the wireless earbuds smarter and more responsive for daily use.

Because the update is coming out in stages, you can check the Pixel Buds app under More Settings and Firmware Update to see if it’s available for you. Google says you’ll need a device with Google app version 16.36+ to get the update.

One of the highlights is Adaptive Audio mode. Before, you had to choose between full noise cancellation, transparency, or turning everything off. Now, Adaptive Audio automatically changes the sound based on where you are. This way, you can hear what’s going on around you while still enjoying clear audio.

Alongside that comes Loud Noise Protection, which automatically lowers the volume when it detects sudden loud sounds, like sirens or heavy machinery. Google does note, however, that this feature won’t cover extreme impulse noises such as fireworks or explosions.

Hands-free controls arrive with head gestures

This update also brings more gesture controls. You can now use head movements to handle calls and messages without needing to touch your earbuds or phone. Nodding lets you accept a call or reply to a message, while shaking your head declines or cancels. If you nod at a text notification, you can instantly dictate your response. Since this feature is rolling out slowly, it might not show up on your device right away, but once it does, it will make hands-free use much easier.

Another improvement is targeted at Gemini Live, Google’s AI-driven live conversation tool. With this update, the Buds Pro 2 handle noisy environments better, filtering out background chatter or TV noise so your voice comes through clearly during interactions. This tweak should make Gemini Live far more reliable for real-time conversations in less-than-ideal settings.
