Google’s reported dimensions for last year’s Pixel 9 and the latest Pixel 10 are almost identical. The two devices only have a 0.1mm difference in thickness in the reported dimensions, leading many to believe that cases can be used interchangeably between the two. That, however, doesn’t seem to be the case; no pun intended.

The two phones have identical button layouts and cutouts, so technically, using cases interchangeably between the two shouldn’t really be a problem. The case incompatibility actually arises thanks to the camera bar, which is ever-so-slightly larger on the Pixel 10. So no, while you can’t slap on a Pixel 9 case on a Pixel 10, you can put a Pixel 10 case on a Pixel 9, as confirmed by the folks over at 9to5Google.

This will result in a slight gap between the Pixel 9’s camera bar and the cutout of a Pixel 10 case, but nothing that would significantly compromise your device’s protection. Essentially, this means that you can slap an official Google Pixelsnap case on your Pixel 9 without any problems.

Pixelsnap cases offer optimized magnet alignment and are designed by Google itself. While the Pixel 9 series does not have built-in magnets, slapping a Pixelsnap case on it allows you to make use of Google’s own growing ecosystem of Qi2-certified magnetic accessories. Generic cases offer the same functionality too, though said cases might not have the same precise alignment or charging efficiency as Google’s own cases.

Elsewhere, this should also ensure that your Pixel 9 works properly with Google’s existing and potentially upcoming Pixelsnap accessories.

Google’s Pixelsnap case for the Pixel 10 costs $50 and is available in Obsidian, Moonstone, Indigo, Porcelain, Jade, Lemongrass, and Frost colorways. Additional accessories include a Charger with Stand, a Ring Stand, and a Pixelsnap Charger.
