Anyone with an iPad knows that the Home Screen’s layout is locked to a specific grid with no adjustability out of the box.
The lone exception to this rule is that you can have widgets on the left side of the screen and apps on the right on the first page. Configuring the Home Screen in this way condenses the app icons. Still, it’s not ideal for the remaining pages.
Those interested in enjoying a denser Home Screen layout on their jailbroken iPad are in luck thanks to a new and free jailbreak tweak called PadGrid by iOS developer PoomSmart.

As you can see for yourself in the screenshot examples above, PadGrid can effectively increase the density of the iPad’s Home Screen grid size from 5×6 to 5×8.
The result is, at least in my opinion, a lot more respectful of the iPad’s vast screen real estate. I never understood why Apple allowed so much empty space on the iPad’s Home Screen to begin with, but I’m particularly excited that PadGrid offers a solution for jailbreakers with this same gripe.
Those who are interested in giving PadGrid a try can download the tweak for free from PoomSmart’s personal repository via their favorite package manager. The tweak is intended for jailbroken iPads running iPadOS 7-14 and is open source on the developer’s GitHub page.
