Owners of Samsung Galaxy smartphones are currently waiting for the One UI 8 update, with flagships like the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and the S25 Ultra being the first in line to get the Android 16-based update, expected sometime in September. However, the Galaxy S25 Edge, which hit the market this May, wasn’t included among the list of eligible devices for the One UI 8 beta.
This naturally led some people to believe that the smartphone may not be high up on the One UI 8 priority list for Samsung. However, a fresh revelation paints a different picture, suggesting the Galaxy S25 Edge could make the jump to One UI 8 stable sooner than expected.
According to RydahDoesTech on X/Twitter, Samsung may be nearly ready with the Galaxy S25 Edge’s One UI 8 update, hinting that the update may even land next month. The accompanying screenshot shows the Galaxy S25 Edge running build version BYH7. What’s also interesting is that this firmware comes bundled with the September 1, 2025, Android security patch.
As Sammy Guru points out, while this revelation doesn’t necessarily mean that Samsung will roll out One UI 8 stable for the Galaxy S25 Edge along with the three early 2025 flagships next month, it does indicate that the stable update is not far away.
The wait for One UI 8 shouldn’t be much longer
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are the only devices that currently feature One UI 8 stable, as they shipped with the software pre-installed. Samsung opened up the One UI 8 beta program for its 2024 flagships, including the Galaxy S24 series and Galaxy Z Fold 6/Z Flip 6, last week. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 5/Flip 5, and the Galaxy Tab S10 series are slated to get the One UI 8 beta in October.
The Galaxy S25 Edge officially reached customers in May, though it was teased by Samsung in January alongside the three Galaxy S25 flagships. This partially explains why the smartphone failed to gain enough traction in the marketplace, as a report from June suggested. Things could be different next year, though, with a shakeup in Samsung’s early 2026 flagships anticipated.
Under this revision, the Galaxy S26 Edge is expected to replace the “Plus” model from Samsung’s early 2026 lineup of flagships, whereas the base model in the trio could be known as the Galaxy S26 Pro. Samsung is reportedly keen on retaining the “Ultra” model, so don’t expect any naming-related changes there. Rumors and leaks about the Galaxy S26 Edge are already beginning to emerge, with one suggesting an even thinner frame and a 4,200mAh battery, a marginal upgrade over the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 3,900mAh battery pack.
