A few days ago, Samsung opened the Android 16 QPR2-based One UI 8.5 beta program for the Galaxy S25 series in select countries, including South Korea, Germany, Poland, India, the US, and the UK. While the new One UI beta release does offer a plethora of new features, there is at least one good reason not to install it on your S25 if you love customization.
Samsung hasn’t removed any customization features built directly into its Android skin with the latest One UI 8.5 beta update. Instead, the South Korean tech giant has broken one of its fan-favorite customization tools, the Good Lock. You can still use it on your phone running the One UI 8.5 beta update, but don’t expect all the modules to work as they should.
One UI 8.5 breaks some popular Good Lock modules
This has come directly from the horse’s mouth, as the Samsung Good Lock team has confirmed on its Korean Community website that as many as four Good Lock modules aren’t working properly (via Android Authority).
To be more specific, if you install the One UI 8.5 beta, the Home Up and QuickStar modules will not work. On top of that, the LockStar and NotiStar are also only partially supported, so not all their features will work as they should on One UI 8.5. Folks over at Android Authority have also reproduced the issues on their Galaxy S25 handsets and confirmed that the Home Up and QuickStar Good Lock modules failed to open.
All four Good Lock modules are popular among users, as they can modify the core layers of One UI, including the lock screen, home screen, and more. Home Up customizes your home screen, QuickStar can modify the Quick settings, while LockStar and NotiStar customize the lock screen and manage notifications, respectively. However, none of them is working the way they should on One UI 8.5.
This has become a pattern now, because we previously saw reports of specific Good Lock modules not working after the release of One UI 6, 7, and 8. For example, after the release of One UI 6, several users complained that the Theme Park and Home Up modules didn’t work properly.
Although Samsung hasn’t clarified who is at fault here, the Good Lock has already started working on fixing the issue. The company has confirmed that the modules will be updated as soon as possible to fix the issues. As for when the fix might arrive, it could take Samsung days to weeks to update those modules to make them compatible with the latest One UI 8.5 beta.
