The Nvidia Shield TV is usually in the news thanks to a new update that’s dropped, which is quite impressive considering that the brand has supported this device for a decade. However, that isn’t the case today, as there are reports coming in from users across the internet that YouTube TV and YouTube aren’t working properly on the Nvidia Shield TV.
It’s already being worked on
The news comes from folks chiming in online in places like Reddit and the Shield TV forums (via 9to5Google). Users are shedding light on the serious issue, indicating that they aren’t able to access YouTube products on their devices, and are getting an error message that states that the app is not supported.
While this is causing some worry, the good news is that it’s already being worked on. There’s feedback from Nvidia that Google is working on a solution. So, for the time being, there isn’t much that can be done but to wait. If you’re someone with an Nvidia Shield, there’s a pretty good chance that when you open YouTube or YouTube TV, you’ll be met with an error message.
However, it doesn’t look like the problem is consistent though, with different reports from different people. Some report that things are working fine, while others report that just one of the two YouTube apps isn’t working. Regardless of what you experience, this is just something to be aware of. We don’t doubt that Google will fix this quickly, as it seems like something minor.
It still gets updates
It may be hard to believe, but the Nvidia Shield TV has to be one of only a few Android devices from ten years ago that still gets updates to make it better. The initial product launched back in 2015, and there have been some revisions to the hardware that have hit the market, with the latest model arriving back in 2019.
While that would be impressive on its own, what’s more astounding is that you can still buy the device off the shelf from retailers like Best Buy and Amazon. And despite its age, it’s still one of the best Android TV devices you can buy. Just last month, it received a new update that improved the UI in order to make it accessible to more people.
Of course, if you don’t need all that it offers, we recommend going with something more affordable, like the Onn 4K Pro, which is pretty much just as good but costs a fraction of the price.
