Nugget, the SparseRestore-based iPhone customization utility for macOS and Windows, picked up an additional update this week ahead of the New Year holiday, officially bringing it up to version 4.2.2.
The update, which was announced via the Cowabunga Discord server by project developer LeminLimez, appears to introduce the following changes over the previous release:
– Add 7 new daemons to disable:
– HealthKit
– AirPrint
– AssistiveTouch
– iCloud
– Internet Tethering (Personal Hotspot)
– PassBook
– Spotlight
– Voice Control
– Fix issue where SparseRestore tweaks would not apply when applying daemons
– Fix mobilegestalt label from showing on unsupported versions
While this isn’t a major update to Nugget, the addition of new features and bug fixes are certainly welcome. Now, users have more control over which daemons on their device do or don’t start up, which allows a device’s resources to be freed up.
Nugget works by writing files outside of the intended restore location, which is made possible with the SparseRestore exploit. The utility supports iOS versions 17.0-18.2 developer beta 2, with certain features being unavailable on the latest releases. Tweaks and add-ons intended for mobilegestalt and AI Enabler will not work on iOS 18.2 and later.
Because users can utilize Nugget to make potentially dangerous changes, there is a risk of boot-looping your device. If you’re going to use Nugget, then it’s strongly recommended that you know what you’re doing and what the expected result of your modifications will be. You should also back up your data before using Nugget just in case something goes wrong and you’re forced to restore your device.
You can learn more about the latest version of Nugget on the project’s GitHub page, which is also where you can acquire the latest downloads. You can also join the Cowabunga Discord server to join the conversation about this popular tool.
You do not need a jailbreak to use Nugget. It’s worth noting, however, that you can achieve jailbreak tweak-like modifications with Nugget on a non-jailbroken device, with certain limitations.
