At its launch back in 2023, NotebookLM was only a web-based application, and it has continued to gain mindshare since then. Although it is not officially confirmed whether the growing popularity was the reason, Google introduced the NotebookLM tool on mobile last year. However, it was not as powerful as its desktop counterpart, though it is now slowly catching up.
NotebookLM has improved significantly over the last couple of months, with the addition of useful features like Infographics and Slide Decks, as well as support for Video Overviews. In addition to these changes, Google has recently added one more handy feature to NotebookLM that gives users more control over the outputs Infographics and Slide Decks generate.
Some of the best features on the NotebookLM app are now more customizable
In November last year, Google added Infographics and Slide Decks to NotebookLM, allowing users to create presentations and visual summaries based on sources. A couple of weeks later, the Mountain View tech giant pushed these two features into the NotebookLM mobile app. Now, on its NotebookLM’s X account, it has shared that Infographics and Slide Decks are customizable.
This means you can now choose the orientation, language, length, sources, and prompt while using Infographics. It’s the same experience that you get on NotebookLM’s web-based application. The Slide Decks has also reached feature parity with its web counterpart.
So, instead of relying on the default experience, you can now choose between “Detailed Deck” and “Presenter Slides,” change the language, choose the right length, use prompts, and select how many sources you want the feature to use to generate Slides. All of these features are now available on NotebookLM for Android and iOS.
However, it’s worth noting that, for free users, “Long” as an option while selecting the length is not available. You’ll need the NotebookLM Ultra subscription to use the feature. If not, you need to choose between the Short and the Default length options, both on the web and the mobile app.
These changes appear to be gradually rolling out via a server-side update, so if you don’t see them yet, force quit the app. If that doesn’t work, wait a few more days for them to reach everyone. If you have got the update, pair NotebookLM with YouTube and use Slide Decks and Infographics to learn faster.
