No2Theft2 protects your iPhone from thieves and pranksters

Whether you’re always paranoid about someone stealing your iPhone when you set it down on a table somewhere in public or you’ve just got lousy friends that like to play pranks on you, a jailbreak tweak called No2Theft2 by iOS developer Elias Sfeir promises to let you know whenever someone tries to be nefarious with your handset.

After you’ve installed and configured No2Theft2, you can rest assured that if someone’s doing something fishy with your iPhone behind your back, you’ll know about it. The tweak uses several methods to notify you whenever someone picks up your handset and enters the passcode incorrectly.

Whenever that happens, the tweak sounds an alarm that can’t be silenced without entering a specific passcode, and the image of the user will be captured with the device’s camera and delivered to one or two of your favorite alternative mobile phone numbers. Neat huh?

No2Theft2 adds a dedicated preference pane to the Settings app where you can configure the tweak to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Toggle No2Theft2 on or off on demand
  • Enable No2Theft2 on the Lock screen
  • Enable or disable capturing the photograph of the troublemaker
  • Disable device shutdown
  • Choose the number of passcode attempts that can be tried before the alarm fires
  • Enter a countdown timer (in seconds) after which the alarm will fire following failed attempts
  • Configure a custom pin number to turn off the alarm
  • Configure up to two phone numbers that the troublemaker’s photograph will be sent to
  • Configure “safe” Wi-Fi networks (alarm won’t sound when the phone is connected to these)

The developer includes a blue “Apply Changes” button at the bottom of the preference pane that you should use whenever you make changes to the preference pane. This ensures your changes are saved.

We particularly like that you can choose ‘safe’ Wi-Fi networks, because this ensures that you won’t accidentally trigger your own alarm in places where you shouldn’t need to worry about nefarious folks touching your handset. We also enjoy being able to see the face of whoever is trying to use our device, because this lets us know who to keep our handset away from.

If you feel like someone might be fiddling with your device behind your back, then No2Theft2 is a great way to find out who it is. Moreover, it can help you protect your device from thieves or from prying eyes.

If you’re interested in trying No2Theft2, then you can download it from Cydia’s BigBoss repository. Upon installation, you can activate it from the tweak’s preference pane for $1.50. No2Theft2 works on jailbroken iOS 12 devices, but if you have an earlier version of iOS, then you can use the tweak’s predecessor (No2Theft) instead.
