Samsung has dropped some interesting announcements at this year’s CES event, which will continue until January 9. While we’ll keep a close eye on whether the South Korean tech giant has anything more to showcase throughout the rest of the event, new leaks about the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 have grabbed our attention.

Last month, a Galaxy Z Fold 8 leak emerged, revealing the camera details of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 predecessor. A couple of months prior to that, we also heard rumors that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a 5,000 mAh battery, which is significantly more than the Z Fold 7’s 4,400 mAh cell.

Now, according to the latest information from Maeil Business Newspaper, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be more comfortable to hold than its predecessor, despite having a larger battery (via Android Authority).

While comfort means different things to different people, it looks like Samsung’s idea was to reduce the overall weight of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. As per the latest leak, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will weigh only 200 grams. If you do the math, that’s 15 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

So, if the rumors are true, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will beat its predecessor to claim the lightest foldable phone in the US, unless, of course, any of Samsung’s rivals manage to bring the weight below 200 grams. A difference of 15 grams may not sound that huge on paper, but it is a pretty big deal in terms of engineering.

To put the whole thing into context, the iPhone 17 Pro and the Galaxy S25+ weigh 206 grams and 190 grams, respectively. It feels like an even bigger achievement for Samsung when you compare the battery capacity of the S25+ and the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The former is only 10 grams heavier, even after being a regular phone with a smaller 4,900 mAh battery.

Moreover, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will also feel lighter in your hand than its predecessor. The latest leak has also revealed that the Z Flip 8 will weigh 150 grams. That’s 38 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Flip 7. While this is impressive, the leak doesn’t reveal anything about whether the weight reduction will have any impact on the battery life of the flip phone.

However, it’s worth pointing out that these are all rumors and haven’t been confirmed by Samsung. We’ll get more clarity on their specifications and other details as we get closer to their official launch, which is unlikely to take place before July 2026.
