When the Samsung Galaxy TriFold arrives in the US, and you decide to part with anywhere up to (or even beyond) $3,000 to get one, you better be careful with it because if it breaks, you may be on your own.
More screen to break
The Samsung Galaxy TriFold is already available to buy in South Korea, where buyers are not able to add a Samsung Care Plus plan to the phone, meaning it falls outside the coverage of Samsung’s own official insurance plan.
Prices of the Samsung Care Plus package in the US vary depending on the phone you own, but can cost anywhere up to $269 for 24-months coverage. This includes unlimited repairs (some with a small excess payment), support, and next-day device replacement.
For the Galaxy TriFold, Samsung gives buyers a 50%-off voucher which can be redeemed against the cost of repair, but it’s only available to use once. Break a TriFold more than once, and you’ll be responsible for the whole cost.
High cost of replacement
The Galaxy TriFold costs the local equivalent of around $2,450, making it the most expensive smartphone Samsung produces, and also one of the most technically complex. It folds out from a 6.5-inch cover screen to a full 10-inch, tablet-style display.
The inner screen folds twice, is a mere 3.9mm thick when it’s open, and its sheer size and relative unfamiliarity makes it a prime candidate for those heart-in-the-mouth, device-juggling moments we’ve all experienced.
A screen repair is estimated to cost around $680 in South Korea, according to ETNews.com, making it a similar price to buying an unconnected Samsung Galaxy S25 FE. Even with 50% off, this is still an expensive mistake.
US release still to come
The cost of the screen replacement in South Korea will not exactly convert over to how much it will cost in the US.
Instead, expect it to cost quite a lot more. Replacing the inner screen on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 can cost between $700 and $900, according to various reports. It makes sense that the larger, more complex Galaxy TriFold’s screen will be considerably more expensive.
It means Samsung Care Plus would normally be a fairly easy sell to those spending so much money on a smartphone, especially if phones they’ve owned in the past have all taken a tumble.
Samsung has not announced the Galaxy TriFold’s US release date yet, and it’s unclear whether Care Plus will be an option when it does eventually arrive. If it’s the same situation as South Korea, and you jump in early to get the new style foldable, keeping a tight grip on it will be wise.
