Mooner is a free alternative to Lunar, offering nice Lock Screen aesthetics to jailbreakers

It wasn’t too long ago that we showed you a jailbreak tweak called Lunar by iOS developer haxi0 that provided an elegantly redesigned Lock Screen experience for jailbroken iOS 16 devices.

But let’s say you wanted to use the tweak on more supported versions of iOS, have more options to configure, and perhaps even not have to pay a cent for such features… if that sounds like you, then a new and free jailbreak tweak called Mooner by iOS developer nowisdev could be right up your alley.

Mooner is yet another Lock Screen-based jailbreak tweak that accomplishes a lot of the same tasks as Lunar, but as the developer notes in their /r/jailbreak release post, it was their first jailbreak tweak release ever while learning to code and it isn’t intended to be a Lunar copy.

The tweak, which is said to be comprised of hundreds of lines of code, provides users with an elegant new Lock Screen font to display textual elements such as the date and time. Even the battery percentage can be displayed here, and it works fully with iOS 16’s Lock Screen-esque wallpaper features.

When you install Mooner, you will find a preference pane in the Settings app where you can configure a number of options to your liking:

Things you can do here include:

  • Toggle Mooner on or off on demand
  • Left, center, or right-align Lock Screen text
  • Hide or show the day/night icon
  • Hide or show the AM/PM text
  • Hide or show the padlock icon
  • Hide or show the page dots
  • Enter a custom time format
  • Enter a custom date format
  • Apply any changes you’ve made so they take effect

The Mooner jailbreak tweak doesn’t appear to support as many different Lock Screen widget options as Lunar does, so there are obviously some trade-offs that users can expect from the free alternative. Still, if you don’t really need all those widgets, it’s a nice way to save a little dime while still upgrading your Lock Screen.

If you’re interested in giving Mooner a try, then you can download it for free from nowisdev’s personal repository via your favorite package manager app. The tweak supports both jailbroken iOS 15 and 16 devices.

If you’re not already taking advantage of nowisdev’s personal repository, then you can add it to your package manger app by using the URL provided below:
