Meteoroid automatically sets your wallpaper from various NASA image sources

One of the most personal aspects of any iPhone or iPad is the wallpaper we choose to decorate our Lock screen and/or Home screen, but sometimes choosing the ideal image for the job can be a grueling challenge.

A new free jailbreak tweak called Meteoroid by iOS developer Jeff Rescignano attempts to make this much easier for the end user by automatically selecting and applying high-quality wallpapers for you.

As you might have inferred from the name already, Meteoroid primarily
appeals to space & astronomy aficionados. With that in mind, it grabs its
wallpapers from a multitude of space & astronomy-centric web sources,
including:

Once installed, you will find a dedicated preference pane in
the Settings app where you can configure Meteoroid to your liking:

Here, you can:

  • Choose whether the wallpaper gets applied to:
  • Choose your preferred image source:
    • NASA – Image of the Day
    • NASA – Earth Observatory
    • NASA – Astronomy Picture of the Day
    • SpaceX – Official SpaceX Photos via Flickr
  • Choose the time you want the wallpaper image to refresh via combo box
  • Open your current wallpaper via the internet

We particularly enjoy the developer’s attention to detail when it comes to configuring Meteoroid because he lets you choose the source and refresh time manually, all while choosing where the auto-wallpaper gets applied. More importantly, the daily refresh means you shouldn’t discern any noticeable drain on battery life.

If you’re interested in space & astronomy and you want something new to look at every single day, then you might want to give Meteoroid a try. The tweak is a free download from the Dynastic Repo repository and works with all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices.

Will you be installing Meteoroid? Let us know why or why not
