Jailbreak news of the week: Dopamine v2 jailbreak launches, how to install RootHide bootstrap, & more…

Your friends here at iDB are something of jailbreak-a-holics. We love jailbreaking, but we also love sharing discoveries in the iPhone and iPad hacking communities that further device customization and push the boundaries of what Apple lets us do with stock devices.

Weekly jailbreak news roundup.Weekly jailbreak news roundup.

A lot of this news happens at strange hours, such as when people are at work, at school, or sleeping, and we get it, not only is following this information sometimes difficult for the average person, but it can sometimes be challenging to understand what hackers are talking about. That’s where we come in, and roundups like this help put everything in a convenient place during a convenient time of day on the weekend, when most people are available to read it.

In this piece, we’ll round up all the latest news and reviews showcased throughout the past work week spanning Monday, February 12th through Sunday, February 18th.

Important stuff from this week

Dopamine v2 release & updates

The Dopamine v2 jailbreak was released on Friday with official support for select versions of iOS & iPadOS 16 on various devices by way of the Kernel File Descriptor (KFD) exploit.

Following the initial release, smaller bug fix updates were released to address issues discovered post-release. You can learn more about Dopamine v2 and its latest updates in our news posts outlined below:

How to install RootHide bootstrap

The RootHide Procursus-based bootstrap is an installable add-on for TrollStore that allows users to run jailbreak tweaks inside of apps.

This bootstrap isn’t a jailbreak, but much like a jailbreak, it installs tweak injection and package manager apps such as Sileo and Zebra.

You can learn more about the RootHide bootstrap and how it’s installed in our step-by-step tutorial.

AudioRecorder TS

AudioRecorder TS for TrollStore by Limneos.AudioRecorder TS for TrollStore by Limneos.

AudioRecorder TS is a TrollStore-based alternative to Elias Limneos’ AudioRecorder XS that doesn’t require a jailbreak, a bootstrap, or a “semi-jailbreak.” Instead, all you need to use it is TrollStore.

With it, you can record audio from phone and FaceTime calls and do with that audio what you will. It’s a feature that Apple has been hesitant to add into stock iOS, but with third-party options like this, users won’t even notice that hesitation because the app is built just as well as Apple would’ve made it.

You can learn more about AudioRecorder TS in our full review post.

TrollInstall SeaShell Protection

Seashell malware.Seashell malware.

SeaShell is a type of malware that can be baked into apps installed with TrollStore, and it allows an attacker to effectively access, control, and steal information from a victim’s device.

While users can avoid SeaShell-based attacks by installing apps only from trusted sources, you can enhance your security by using a screening Shortcut called TrollInstall so that you know if those apps you’re installing are safe or not before installing them.

You can find our more about TrollInstall in our full review post.

PureKFD updates

The PureKFD package manager app that allows users to install hacks and add-ons on their non-jailbroken device vulnerable to either MacDirtyCow or Kernel File Descriptor has been updated in the past week with improvements.

CustomLPM

Low Power Mode.Low Power Mode.

Having fuller control over when Low Power Mode turns on or off on your device can help you big time in conserving battery life.

The new CustomLPM jailbreak tweak is especially helpful this regard. You can choose the battery percentages or actions that automatically trigger Low Power Mode or that automatically shut it back off.

You can learn more about CustomLPM in our full review post.

Resentment

The iOS 16 Lock Screen’s Now Playing interface is aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, and now with a new jailbreak tweak called Resentment, you can have a carbon copy of that interface with customization options on your jailbroken iOS 14 or 15 device.

You can learn more about Resentment and where you can get it from in our full review post.

iOS 17.3 unsigned

iOS 17 downgrade firmware.iOS 17 downgrade firmware.

Apple on Thursday stopped signing iOS & iPadOS 17.3 in a move that officially prevents downgrades from the newer iOS & iPadOS 17.3.1.

Because of this, it is no longer possible to downgrade to iOS or iPadOS 17.3, nor is it possible to upgrade to iOS or iPadOS 17.3 from an older firmware without using the DelayOTA method.

You can learn more about this in our full news post.
