Hacking and jailbreaking iPhones & iPads is one of our favorite activities here at neveropen, so it goes without saying that we follow these spaces very closely and enjoy sharing our findings with our like-minded readers.
In today’s roundup, we’ll be discussing all the latest news posts and jailbreak tweak releases and/or updates from this past week, spanning Monday, June 2nd to Sunday, June 8th. We’ll start by discussing some of the most pertinent topics first before moving on to an outline of the latest tweak updates and then closing with some useful roundups and tutorials to help you along on your journey.
Important stuff from this week
Aquila iOS 6 jailbreak
Aquila is an all-new untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 devices that harnesses the new bad_queue kernel exploit by iOS developer staturnz.
It’s reportedly faster and better than previous jailbreaks, however we don’t have any older devices that we can test this on to independently verify these claims.
You can learn more about Aquila in our full news post.
Cellebrite acquiring Corellium
Cybersecurity company Cellebrite is acquiring iPhone hardware virtualization company Corellium for a handsome $200 million in a move that could make Cellebrite more effective at its mission.
It’s expected that the merger will empower law enforcement agencies with more powerful tools for extracting data from seized crime devices, and some privacy advocates are decrying the merger as a potential red flag for user privacy.
You can learn more about the merger in our full news post.
Silque
Silque is an upcoming project that’s currently in beta that strives to offer computerless app slideloading on iPhones and iPads.
The developer first shared their app on /r/jailbreak this past week, and it seems to show promise with both an interesting UI and an interesting suite of features that the developer plans to add.
You can learn more about the Silque project in our full news post.
Alpine
Alpine is a work-in-progress app that could enable CLI and SSH Server functionality on non-jailbroken devices using only the tools provided by Procursus.
It’s expected to work on all the latest devices running the latest firmware versions, but the developer still remains unsure if they’ll be able to complete the project. It’s a learning experience for them.
You can learn more about Alpine and what it strives to be in our full news post.
Scrobbit
Scrobbit is a new jailbreak tweak that can scrobble your music from other music apps to the Last.fm app on your pwned handset.
By scrobbling music from all your apps, you can get a more complete list of Scrobbles in the Last.fm app, improving your recommendation algorithms and more.
You can learn more about Scrobbit in our full review post.
Scrubble
Just like Scrobbit above, Scrubble is another jailbreak tweak that automatically scrobbles your music from other music apps to the Last.fm app on your jailbroken device.
This open is open source and costs a little less, but the supported app list isn’t as clear.
You can learn more about Scrubble in our full review post.
