We’re accustomed to seeing interesting things in the jailbreak community. That’s why it may not come as much of a surprise that someone has used their ASUS ROG Ally handheld gaming system to jailbreak their checkm8-susceptible device.
Shared late Friday evening by Reddit user /u/TECKBAT, the fear was achieved using the palera1n jailbreak and an iPhone X running the iOS 16.4 firmware.
While it seems obscure at first glance, it’s worth noting that the ASUS ROG Ally runs a full-fledged version of the Windows 11 Home desktop operating system.
The picture shared reveals that /u/TECKBAT was using openra1n, an unofficial fork of the palera1n jailbreak that allows for jailbreaking on Windows PCs without the need for using the palen1x booter.
The ASUS ROG Ally, despite being a handheld, is no slouch in the specs department either. The $700 price tag lends you a modest AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processor, a 4nm octa-core chip capable of boosts of up to 5.1Ghz, 16GB of memory, and AMD Radeon graphics. That said, it’s more than capable of jailbreaking an iPhone.
While not everyone has an ASUS ROG Ally sitting on their desk to take with them every day, it’s worth noting because it’s a portable unit. One of the problems with semi-tethered jailbreaks is the need to connect to a computer every time you reboot the jailbroken device, so bringing your booting tool with you can be mildly convenient.
