If the Galaxy S26 Edge was a person, we’d be petitioning Samsung to stop messing it about. After long months of will-they-won’t-they, we thought Samsung had settled on canceling the thinnest Galaxy S phone after lackluster sales of the previous phone in the line.
But now, it seems the S26 Edge will see the light of day after all. The Galaxy S26 Edge has been spotted in Indian certification, according to a leaker on X (via Android Authority).
Or is it? While initial reports were that this phone concerns the S26 Edge, other sources are claiming it isn’t.
Is this the Edge, or just the Plus again?
The phone has been spotted on the website of the Indian certification body, known as BIS. Spotted by X tipster Mohammed Khatri, the screenshot doesn’t name the S26 Edge outright, but does mention the model number SM-S947B, one of the model numbers associated with the Galaxy S26 Edge in the past.
But it’s not the only phone we’ve seen given that number, and it was thought the S26 Plus had been given that model number when it replaced the Edge as the middle child of the upcoming S26 roster.
Well, Khatri has tackled this head-on, claiming the S26 Plus has already been seen on the BIS website, and it was given a model number starting with SM-S946, rather than SM-S947. So, he thinks this being the Edge is a slam dunk.
However, that assumption may not hold water. GalaxyClub.nl’s X account has weighed in on the matter, arguing that SM-S946 does not refer to the S26 Plus at all, claiming the battery from the BIS’s website does not belong to the S26 Plus at all — and implying that the phone Khatri has spotted may not be the Edge at all. Logically, then, it would be more likely to be the S26 Plus after all. It certainly matches the model number we’ve seen in the past.
We won’t know whether the S26 Edge will make some sort of return in 2026, and leakers and experts alike are split about whether we will or not. It’s likely we won’t know at all until Samsung announces its next flagship range in February.
