Aviva Zacks of Safety Detective met with Mauro Carini, Founding Executive Director of SonicFast, and asked him about his company’s hosting services.

Safety Detective: What motivated you and your co-founder to start SonicFast?

Mauro Carini: In 2016, I was working for a hosting company that dealt with providing web hosting to e-commerce and other midsized businesses. Many customers had problems with distributed attacks probably coming from competitors, and every time, the customers were forced to rely on a third-party company to secure their website.

At the end of 2016, my co-founder Mario De Paolis and I started SonicFast, and we are now one of the top 90 companies in the UK providing IT solutions. We started SonicFast with the intent of providing hosting services that can withstand most of the web attacks in a single solution, with minimum effort from the customer.

SD: Could you tell me about SonicFast hosting services?

MC: Our goal is to provide an all-in-one hosting solution with full-stack threat protection, selling a powerful and easy-to-use solution, that IT professionals can migrate to in few hours. Usually, to protect a website as we do, you would need at least five different figures in the field of cybersecurity.

Our strength is to have created an automated solution that makes our security engineers and the experience acquired by us available to anyone who needs it, almost instantly, and constantly updated.

SD: What other services does your company provide?

MC: Being a hosting company with a special focus on cybersecurity, we have a large scale of products both for private customers and enterprises.

Our products, of course, can be found on the website on which we offer a range from UPS, web hosting, dedicated servers up to 20 gigabit of connection per server. But also, we have a VPN with over 40 POPs around the world. And of course, all the protection products which are the layer 7 protection, layer 3, and 4. We use the Corero Smart Wall technology to protect our customers from layer 3 and 4 attacks.

SD: What do you think is the worst cyberthreat today?

MC: I think that the DDoS attacks are one of the most popular cyberthreat; the volumes of such attacks increase about 15-20% every year. Nowadays in the pandemic, a lot of problems for the company can happen as everyone is moving online. What was distributed is now even more distributed, and there are always more targets that can be attacked. I always say that the uptime is not only provided by the quality of the hardware but also from the DDoS protection because you can’t guarantee uptime without valid DDoS protection.
