One of the things about incoming message notifications on Apple’s mobile platforms that has always sort of ground my gears is the fact that dismissing a missed message notification doesn’t automatically mark those messages as read.
Because this seems to be a common opinion among iOS & iPadOS users, iOS developer 3h6_1 just this week released a new jailbreak tweak called IMRead that can automatically mark message as read after clearing their notification either from the Lock Screen or from the Notification Center.
One of the reasons why I can get behind a jailbreak tweak that does this is because I have generally already glanced at and acknowledged a message notification when I move forward with clearing it. With that in mind, the stock behavior of clearing the notification and then going into the Messages app to open the very same message can sometimes feel like double the effort for a single task.
The developer notes in the IMRead tweak depiction that marking the latest message in a conversation as read will automatically mark any older messages in that same conversation as read as well. This means that users will need to be highly selective about what messages they mark as read, or older notifications could be missed.
With no options to configure, IMRead is about as simple as things get for solving this common message notification gripe. By simply clearing a notification from the Lock Screen or from Notification Center, the message gets marked as read in the Messages app. Who wouldn’t like that?
IMRead is available as a free download from the Havoc repository via any package manager app that you might have on your jailbroken handset. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 16 devices and is also fully compatible with the popular BadgeSync jailbreak tweak.
