The past few months have been a bit of a saga for Google’s loyal Pixel 6a users. The device, which many, up until recently, were using with great satisfaction, has suddenly become a source of constant concern.

For those unaware, reports about the 2022-released mid-range device spontaneously combusting have only increased in recent months, prompting many to put down the old trusty.

The primary culprit here appeared to be the battery, leading Google to push out a mandatory software update that reduced charging speeds and battery capacity to prevent overheating.

For 6a users with an already-low battery health, this meant that their phone’s battery would often last less than a day. Google did make amends, offering users free faulty battery replacement or $150 in cash payments.

If you didn’t opt for the free battery replacement, and/or prefer a more hands-on approach and don’t want to send your device in, there’s finally some good news. iFixit finally has the Pixel 6a replacement battery and battery kits back in stock, as pointed out by Reddit user 10000reasons.

A welcome restock

For reference, iFixit began carrying genuine Pixel repair and replacement parts back in 2022, and the online resource has since carried parts for all Pixel devices.

Lately, however, it’s been out of Pixel 6a batteries, likely because the widespread issues have increased demand, all while drying up a limited supply. With stock finally replenished, users looking to breathe new life into their Pixel 6a finally have an official fix without having to go through Google.

iFixit has relevant guides and videos to walk you through the replacement steps, so even if you’re not a master DIY-er, you should be able to follow along and successfully replace the aging battery.
