While we have plenty of new mobile games to look forward to in 2025, let’s look at the games that squeezed into the last few days of 2024. From the long-awaited Monument Valley 3 to the gritty platformer Blasphemous, you certainly don’t want to miss out on the games that wrapped up 2024.

We collated the best games of December 2024 to help you escape the cold and enjoy some fantastic Android games without trawling through the Play Store. Want to see what our best Android games of the year were? We hand-tested the biggest Android releases of the year (plus a few lesser-known titles) to bring you the top 10 games of 2024. So settle down, grab some noise-canceling earbuds to block out the world, and kick off 2025 with these great Android games.

5 Blasphemous

A gritty and brutal Souls-like platformer

Blasphemous disguises itself as a retro metroidvania game, but the reality is a gritty Souls-like platformer that’ll have you throwing your phone at the wall repeatedly. Anyone familiar with games like Dark Souls or Bloodborne will know this is a compliment. Blasphemous’ brutal combat encounters reward practice, deep knowledge of the game, and a willingness to accept death repeatedly.

This is a direct port of Blasphemous for PCs and consoles, with all DLC included in the initial price. It’s a fantastic experience for anyone who enjoys a challenge, but we recommend a controller. Touch-screen controls are insufficient for such a fast-paced game, so grab an Android-compatible controller for the best experience. After familiarizing yourself with the controls, prepare for this gritty, atmospheric platformer that’ll impress you with its aesthetics just as much as it drives you to the brink of frustration.

4 Monument Valley 3

Visually stunning

Monument Valley 3 is the pinnacle of indie mobile games. Clever, visually stunning, and backed by a passionate team, it’s an antidote to the microtransaction-filled sludge that has dominated the Play Store for years. That isn’t to say it isn’t without its flaws, but if you need to escape from reality, Monument Valley 3 is here for you.

Monument Valley 3 isn’t a challenging puzzle game. While each level’s reality-bending platforms may seem impossible, you can usually make your way through each stage by moving objects randomly. However, the true joy is in the journey. From M.C. Escher structures to origami creations, each level will have you pondering how on earth anyone came up with these designs. Not convinced it’s for you? Read our in-depth review of Monument Valley 3 for a detailed breakdown.

3 GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition

Push your phone’s hardware to its limits

Feral Interactive is a familiar name in the mobile gaming world. We regularly review its mobile ports of classic strategy games, but these tend to be older titles that modern phones can easily handle. GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition is one of the few exceptions. It’s only a couple of years old and with demanding requirements. It’s a visually stunning experience. However, if you don’t have a compatible device, you can’t play it. Even if you have one of the latest gaming phones, the game is locked to a 30fps cap.

After you’re in, you can enjoy one of the best racing games on Android, with the trademark Feral quality-of-life improvements. While we recommend a controller for the best experience, the touch controls are more than sufficient to take you through the visually stunning environments of GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition.

2 Civilization VI: Netflix

One of the best strategy games at a great price

Civilization VI has existed on the Play Store since 2020, but Netflix snapped up the rights to publish it simultaneously under the Netflix Games banner. While this means you’ll need a Netflix subscription to play it, you get the game’s Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions, as well as the six previously released content updates, included at no additional cost. Netflix made this the most affordable way to play Civilization VI and fixed some of the bugs that marred the original mobile release.

Civilization VI is best played on an Android tablet. While the developers made great efforts to make the game accessible for small screens, the UI feels cramped on a phone. This is a fantastic way to enjoy one of the best strategy games.

1 Death’s Door

A beautiful fantasy RPG

Reaping souls as an immortal crow might sound like a fun job. In Death’s Door, it’s a dead-end job. However, opportunity strikes when a soul is stolen, and you adventure off to discover the thief’s identity and the nature of death. It’s a fun premise, matched by the game’s stunning visuals, addictive gameplay, and charming cast of characters.

These elements are marred by awkward touch controls that seem determined to trip you up when you least expect it. This is a major flaw in an otherwise perfect game. We hope the developers will straighten this out or add controller support. It’s a Netflix Games title, so if you have a subscription, we recommend trying it out.

Honorable mentions

We struggled to trim the list of the best games from December 2024 into five options. Here are the other great games from this year that didn’t make the cut.

Infinity Nikki

A controller-friendly gacha RPG with an open world and fashion contests, Infinity Nikki is one of the most beautiful games we’ve seen. The focus on fashion is intriguing, as dressing up your character is a core element of the gameplay.

Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition

Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition is optimized for higher-end devices. Budget Android phones and tablets will run into game-breaking performance issues. However, this is a fully-fledged survival game with thousands of hours of gameplay.

Eldrum: Black Dust

Eldrum: Black Dust is a text-based RPG with enough bells and whistles to make it the equal of many of the best RPGs on Android. If you’re familiar with the Eldrum series, this is the best.

Enjoy the latest Android games

For better or worse, most of the best games released in December are locked behind a Netflix Games subscription. If you aren’t sure whether these games are worth a Netflix subscription, check out more of our favorite titles from Netflix Games.
