The Google Nest Cam with Floodlight is an excellent choice for monitoring driveways and yards, with a combined brightness of 2,400 lumens. This floodlight by Google Nest works best in the Google Home ecosystem, but performs well as a standalone product, too. No outlet? No problem. Wireless installation means this camera works wherever you need it.Â
I’ve been slowly building my smart home. I started with a Nest Thermostat and, having added a Nest Doorbell, the next purchase I planned on is the Google Nest Cam with Floodlight. Thanks to a lovely discount during Prime Day, I can finally make that purchase.
Typically, the Nest Cam with Floodlight retails for $280, which isn’t cheap, especially when my goal is to simply keep an eye on my backyard and my dog. Perhaps I’ll finally catch the groundhog eating my garden in action and figure out how he is getting under my fencing. Point being, the cam isn’t a necessity, but a convenience. However, today’s sale, which reduces the retail price by 29%, allows me to snag one at the low price of $199 — a deal that’s too good to pass up.
What’s great about the Google Nest Cam with Floodlight
Convenience paired with practicality
Now that my front door and yard are covered with the Nest Doorbell, I’ve been wanting to pick up a Nest Cam with Floodlight to cover the backyard while building out my smart home with more cams. Today is the day at $199. The convenience of getting alerts anytime something moves back there will certainly be a boon, as I have a sneaking suspicion animals have been getting into the yard, but I can’t figure out where. Once I install the Nest Cam with Floodlight, that will no longer be an issue, and I can’t wait.
Of course, there are plenty of other reasons to install a floodlight camera, such as security to ensure you catch any intruders on your property, whether you are home or away. You can always check in through the Google Home app to see what’s going on. While I don’t pay for the subscription to store my footage (I simply want alerts and a live feed), if you’d like to take advantage of Nest Aware, you can do so starting at $8 a month.
There’s no beating the convenience of being able to check in on your property at any time. The more cameras you add to the outside of your home, the more you can see your property, which is why I love the idea of a floodlight camera for the back or side yard (or even both) to ensure every portion of the yard is covered. Whether keeping an eye on nature or simply securing your perimeter with a vigilant eye, there is no doubt that the security and convenience gained are worth a couple of hundred dollars.
