I have abandoned dozens of finance apps on my Google Pixel 8.

I constantly downloaded, tested, and deleted expense trackers, always hoping the next one would finally click. However, they were either too complicated, restrictive, or simply ugly.

The process of adding a new expense — the single most important user action — is quick.

If I had one request for the development team in future updates, it would be to introduce Android homescreen widgets. Being able to see ‘Spending Left This Month’ budget or a one-tap shortcut to the expense entry screen without opening the app would be awesome.

I would also love to see a Material You makeover in the upcoming updates. The current UI does the job just fine, but it looks out of place compared to other Android apps.

Customizable wallets

While the beautiful design initially caught my eye, the core features are what truly make Spendee a powerful, long-term solution. The flexibility it offers in managing my funds is head and shoulders above what I experienced with other apps.

It starts with customizable wallets. Instead of dumping every transaction into one giant, confusing pile, I can segment my money exactly how I need to.

I have separate wallets for my primary checking account, my physical cash transactions, and even specialized budgets like a ‘Home Maintenance Fund.’

This separation gives me true clarity about where my resources are allocated.

Beyond just tracking, the budgeting system is well-executed. I love the color-coding that subtly tells me if I’m in the green, approaching yellow, or deep in the red.

Finally, while I appreciate the quick manual entry, the recurring transactions feature saves me immense time. Setting up my rent, phone bill, and subscriptions once means I never have to worry about logging them again.

It handles bill management effortlessly and makes sure my big, predictable expenses are accounted for every month without fail. These fundamental tools are robust, reliable, and exactly what I needed to finally take real control.

Killer collaboration features

If the core features are what got me tracking, these advanced capabilities are what secured Spendee’s place as my permanent financial home.

This is where it stops being just a tracker and starts becoming a powerful financial analysis and collaboration tool.

The bank connection is an absolute must-have. I linked my local bank to Spendee, and it automatically pulls all the relevant transactions in the background. And the auto-categorization is surprisingly smart and saves me time.

For shared finances, the Shared Wallet feature is another major time saver. My partner and I can both contribute to and view a single wallet dedicated to household expenses.

It provides perfect transparency regarding who paid for what and how much we have collectively spent on groceries, fuel, or rent — all without having to argue over a spreadsheet.

Finally, the insights and graph views are the cherry on top.

Spendee transforms dry data into beautiful, easy-to-read infographics. I can see in a flash if I’m living within my means. It gives me the knowledge and the power to make informed decisions.

Cross-platform access

One of the final reasons Spendee sealed the deal for me is its fantastic cross-platform availability.

While I do most of my quick transaction logging on my Android phone, there are times when I want to do deeper analysis, bulk edit a month’s worth of data, or just get a large-screen view of my analysis charts.

That’s where the web version comes in. My data syncs flawlessly between my Android phone and the desktop web version. I can sit down with my laptop, import old CSV data, and get the job done.

Moreover, I like how Spendee offers two premium plans. If your local bank isn’t supported, you can always opt for an affordable plan that has all the other features.

Goodbye app-switching

So, after years spent downloading, testing, and ultimately deleting countless budget apps, my search has ended with Spendee. It’s a rare finance app that strikes a balance between UI and features.
