Private Internet Access (PIA) is great for safely downloading files with a Ukrainian IP address. It allows P2P traffic on all servers, including its servers in Ukraine, and in my tests, it always worked well with torrent clients like Vuze and BitTorrent. You also get port forwarding, which lets you connect to more peers for faster downloading speeds. ExpressVPN offers this feature, but it’s only available on its router app.
PIA is also really good for streaming. All of its servers are optimized for streaming, and they work with all the major streaming platforms, though ExpressVPN works with more streaming sites.
I like that PIA delivers consistently high speeds. In my tests, all websites and HD videos loaded instantly, some 4K videos took 1–2 seconds to load, and all of my VoIP calls were stable. I also never experienced any buffering when streaming.

For example, I was able to configure the VPN to automatically connect me to a Ukrainian server when I opened Spotify. It’s very easy to use too, and it never took me more than 4–5 seconds to find and connect to one of its Ukrainian servers.

NordVPN is a great pick for safe connections to Ukrainian servers. It has advanced security features like RAM-only servers and perfect forward secrecy, and I really like that it comes with full leak protection — in my tests, I never experienced any leaks and always saw a Ukrainian IP address. In addition, NordVPN comes with Dark Web Monitor, which scans the dark web and lets you know if the login details have been leaked, and it offers both split-tunneling and inverse split-tunneling.

Surfshark offers good speeds, but you might experience some slowdowns if you’re connecting to a Ukrainian server from a more distant place. In my tests, sites took 3–4 seconds to load, HD and 4K videos loaded in 4–5 seconds, and I experienced minor buffering. ExpressVPN was much faster.
