Want to have fun with your flip phone? The Honor Magic V Flip2 is going out of its way to make sure it’s never boring, with a special partnership to liven up the design, and a selection of virtual pets ready to entertain on the cover screen.

Let’s talk about the design first. The Magic Flip2 marks the return of fashion expert Jimmy Choo to the Honor family, with a limited edition version of the phone wearing the famous brand name. Finished in blue with a unique crystal shimmer, Choo’s version of the Magic V Flip2 is made to look like it’s covered in “crushed stardust” according to the press blurb.

Rather than only concentrate on one model, Choo has had a hand in the other V Flip2 colors too, with the purple, white, and grey models all taking inspiration from the brand’s designs. However, only the special blue model has the sparkling effect. Honor will also release accessories including a leather sling and a pearl strap for the V Flip2.

The approach is less Samsung and more Motorola, with the V Flip2 clearly competing with the Razr 2024 and Razr Ultra, and Motorola’s partnerships with color experts Pantone and Swarovski. It’s now a competition to see which flip phone is the most sparkly, with the Jimmy Choo V Flip2 up against the recently announced Swarovski x Motorola Razr 2024 collaboration.

Pets and specs

What about those virtual pets? There are nine to choose from, ranging from a West Highland Terrier dog to an, um, lucky cloud, and all react to gestures made over the screen. When they spot a gesture, they’ll virtually hand over a flower or a special coin. It’s probably not for us, but we can imagine younger ones having fun with this feature.

What else can you expect? The compact flip phone has a 6.82-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate when open, and a 4-inch, 120Hz OLED when closed. It operates through a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor with 12GB of RAM (16GB and 1TB of storage space if you choose the Jimmy Choo version), and Android 15 with Honor’s MagicOS 9 software.

Being a flip phone, it’s possible to use the 200-megapixel main camera and 50MP wide-angle camera for selfies, plus there’s a 50MP camera on the inner screen too. There’s a host of AI camera features related to portrait selfies, and also plenty of AI editing tweaks too. Completing the spec list is a 5,500mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.

Honor does release some of its smartphones globally, but the V Flip series has so far been restricted to China, and it seems the V Flip2 won’t be any different. The V Flip2’s larger sibling, the Honor Magic V5, is expected to launch in the U.K. and Europe before the end of the month though, where it will take on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the newly announced Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
