It looks like it’ll only be a matter of time before you see new icons for Google apps on your smartphone, as we just got our first look at the gradient icons for Google Photos and Google Maps.

With Gemini taking a more central place across Google’s products and services, Google recently unveiled its brand-new logo. The company moved on from the solid four-color “G” logo we had all come to love and introduced a new gradient icon using the same iconic four colors.

Google said the new icon “reflects our evolution in the AI era” and was the company’s first major shake-up to the G logo since 2015. Now, it looks like it’s time for the rest of the Google apps to follow, as new icons for Google Maps and Google Photos have been spotted.

9to5Google has now shared new icons for the redesigned logos of Google Maps and Google Photos. The icons are mostly the same as before, but now have a subtle gradient, similar to the G logo.

The Google Maps icon still uses the same colors but includes a few subtle changes for detail spotters. The inner circle has been slightly enlarged, and the diagonal partitions are now gone as Google moves to a gradient look.

The Photos icon keeps its familiar pinwheel shape but now features a gradient effect radiating from the center. Google last redesigned the Photos app logo in 2020, and although the new icon retains mostly the same design, the gradient gives it a more dynamic and modern look.

It makes sense for Google to use these new logos across its apps now, as it already offers AI and Gemini features within them. It’s also keeping pace with the industry, as Microsoft recently unveiled a new logo for Microsoft 365 with fresh hues and a bolder, 3D-like style.

The new icons haven’t started rolling out yet, but it seems only a matter of time before Google updates all its app icons across Android. Now that the new icons have been spotted, it’s reasonable to think the rollout should happen soon. We’ll keep you posted as these updated icons start appearing on your devices.
