Google has taken its foot off the development pedal for quite a few of its popular projects over the years. And while Google Voice is a pretty reliable and complete product at this point, there are still a few features that dedicated users wish were available on the platform.

And while today might not be that day, Google could be introducing something new very soon, and it could be very handy, especially if you’re someone that likes to keep detailed notes on every call.

The power of Gemini comes to Voice

According to 9to5Google, it looks like Google is preparing to introduce something called ‘Gemini Notes’ in a future update. This product was discovered by diving into the code of the latest Google Voice app update, coming in at version 2025.12.28.849841638.

The feature will record the call, then create a transcript that will be emailed for review. The news outlet shares that this update will most likely be for Workspace users, or those that pay for the Google Voice service.

We’ve seen a feature similar to this that is currently available in Google Meet. And for the most part, it’s pretty handy, allowing you to easily catch up on what you might have missed. Naturally, depending on the call, there can be a lot of data to get through, so having it in this form can be a lifesaver.

The news outlet didn’t have a clear date for when this feature would arrive. But if you’re a Google Voice user, it’s something to keep an eye out for. As far as features go, this could be a pretty big one for 2026. And seeing how scarce updates are for Voice, it will be one to look forward to.

It’s a fairly complete product for most people

In 2025, Google re-added three-way calling to Voice, which was a pretty big deal. And the year prior, Google didn’t add a thing to the service. If this is your first time learning about Google Voice, it’s a pretty good solution if you need another line.

You don’t need to pay for anything if it’s for personal use, and the basics are pretty much covered. It’s also a great way to stay connected if you’re someone that travels often and needs to stay connected.

While there are messaging apps, most of them don’t provide a phone number where you can be reached. You can even use Google Voice for two-factor authentication as well. So, we recommend giving it a try. You can download the app or just access it using a browser.
