Many of us at Android Police use Google Keep as the default note-taking app, not because it’s the best one out there, but the app offers a bunch of easy-to-use features that get the job done. One such capability is its built-in reminders, though Google will soon treat them a bit differently in Keep.
Google has long been working on unifying to-dos across its platforms. It all started way back in 2023 when the Mountain View tech giant announced that it would migrate reminders from Google Calendars and Google Assistant to Google Tasks. In 2024, the company also confirmed that reminders created in the Keep app would appear in Tasks. A year has passed since then, but it hasn’t materialized yet. However, that doesn’t mean the company has scrapped its Keep-to-Tasks reminders migration plan, as Google is still committed to completing the merger this year.
Google shares a new timeline for Keep-to-Tasks reminders migration
Back in 2024, Google only mentioned that Keep reminders would unify into Tasks “over the next year,” without specifying any dates. In its latest support document (via 9to5Google), it has reiterated its commitment to what it promised, though it’s now a little more specific about when users can expect to see the change. The company has clarified that the Keep-to-Tasks migration will happen in the second half of 2025.
The company hasn’t specified a date this time around, either. So, technically, we might have to wait till December for this change to appear. Whatever the case might be, now that we’ve come close to it, there are a few important pieces of information related to that migration that you need to remember.
You won’t lose the ability to create reminders in the Keep app when the unification is complete. Instead, reminders you create in the app will automatically be saved to Tasks. As per the support document, you’ll still be able to ‘find, edit, and complete reminders’ in Keep, as is the case with Calendar and Assistant. Also, reminders are saved as tasks in the Google Tasks app. Long story short, the Tasks app will soon become the home for all your reminders, in the true sense.
The unification makes the Tasks app all the more important, so if you’re someone who uses Google’s platforms for everything productivity, you now have an even greater incentive to install the app. We’re hoping Google will also focus on fixing issues in the Keep app.
