Much like death, taxes, and subscribed services getting worse, something going wrong with your smartphone is a universal inevitability. And that doesn’t have to mean it turning into a brick, as slowdowns, bugs, and battery problems are just as frustrating. However, Google seems to be making some changes that could make finding and fixing those problems a little bit easier.

According to an APK teardown by Android Authority, Google is bringing all the Pixel diagnostic tools under the same menu, and is also looking to add some AI help as well.

Changes would make it easier to use existing tools

Adding AI might actually be useful here too

Google Pixels have no shortage of diagnostic and basic fixing tools built into them, but at the moment, they’re all spread out in separate menus on your device. In some ways, this makes sense: if you’re looking for reasons why your battery might be running dry quickly, you’ll probably check out the Battery settings section. But, if you’re not sure what might be wrong, well, you might not know where to begin.

It looks like Google is fixing that problem with a huge overhaul to its Pixel Troubleshooting app. First spotted in Pixel Troubleshooting version 1.0.792370112, this redesign would bring all of that app’s powerful tools into one area, making it much more useful to anyone looking for solutions to a nagging problem.

As is usual for the Troubleshooting app, it’s not an app per se, but is found in the Settings menu. This new Troubleshooting area can be found under the Device health & support menu, and contains headings for Battery health, Device temperature, Storage, and your Software update status. Further down are options for starting Charging diagnostics, as well as Touch diagnostics.

These diagnostics will boot up and use an AI model to scan your device and see whether there are any easy solutions. While it’s tiresome to see AI shoehorned into everything, this is actually an area where AI should be leveraged. Searching for troubleshooting solutions often involves diving into thread after thread of people looking into the same problems, and this is exactly an area where AI can help.

Unfortunately, Android Authority could not get the AI model to work on their Pixel 9, so it’s possible it’s limited to the new Pixel 10 range, or hasn’t been fully enabled just yet.

Finally, there’s also an option at the bottom of the screen to check out your Warranty, and you’ll be able to ring a Repair centre or Contact support from here too.

Samsung fans will notice that this is something that Samsung has offered for a long time, though it’s important to note that Google’s new menu takes this even further and uses AI to help try and diagnose issues. We haven’t had any word on when Google will be looking to roll this out yet, but based on what we’ve seen, it might not be long.
