It’s been a while since Google introduced something new that truly redefines browsing, but the tech giant’s latest Google Labs experiment has the potential to truly hit home.

If you’re someone that struggles with tab clutter when researching a topic, planning a trip, or akin, you might just want to join the tech giant’s waitlist to try out Disco’s ‘GenTabs.’

Disco is the tech giant’s new ‘Disco-very’ vehicle designed to reimagine browsing and building for the modern web. ‘GenTabs,’ on the other hand, is essentially an AI-powered browsing tool that allows you to turn your tabs into custom apps.

Built using Gemini 3, early testers are already using GenTabs to create unique apps. For example, let’s say you’re watching your calories and trying to follow a meal plan, the tool can create an app that can help you follow the meal plan.

Whether you’re “planning a trip to Japan to see the cherry blossoms, or helping your elementary schooler learn about the planets, GenTabs helps you get the most out of the web,” wrote the tech giant.

As seen in the short clip above, GenTabs doesn’t simply act as a window to the internet, instead, it practically understands context within your complex tasks (through your open tabs and chat history) and creates interactive web applications to solve said tasks.

Here’s what this might look like in practice:

  • Prerequisite: You have several tabs open with research about something like traveling to Japan, hotel prices, where to see the cherry blossoms, and more.
  • GenTabs wont just help you with helpful links for the task at hand, it will also ask you for permission to create an app that might let you visualize your trip and its itinerary.
  • The tool creates an interactive app for you without you having to write a single line of code. The app is tailored to your needs, and can be updated with more relevant data as needed with details like activities, restaurant recommendations, weather information, and more.

You’ll need a Mac to try out the new tool

We’ve seen something similar before. Gemini’s Generative Interface’s Dynamic View essentially designs and codes a custom UI in real-time. GenTabs is similar, but instead of just coding a new UI, it codes an interactive app as well.

Before you rush to uninstall your traditional browsers, you must note that Disco and GenTabs are Google Labs experiments. The new tools are currently available via waitlist and, interestingly, only on macOS (at least for now). “It’s early, and not everything will work perfectly,” suggests the tech giant.
