Being able to track lost items using Google’s Find Hub is one of the more underrated features of Android. And while it’s good, it can definitely use some work in its effectiveness, which is something that Android users actually control.

If you’re not familiar with how Find Hub works, it relies on Bluetooth and crowdsourced information from nearby devices in order to get an accurate location for a product. And with millions of Android devices on the planet, this should make it flawless.

Unfortunately, that really isn’t the case, and it’s not the technology that’s lacking here. It’s just a simple issue where many devices aren’t setup properly. Google’s Find Hub has a range of tracking options to choose from, and most users are not selecting the most optimal mode.

Things are changing

At the moment, Find Hub has four different settings that users can choose. Although each setting has a long description explaining how it differs from the others, it can be confusing if you’re someone that’s new to the experience. Luckily, it looks like Google is rolling out a new menu system for Find Hub, that will hopefully make it clearer (via Android Authority).

The new enrollment menu looks to be available on new Google Pixel 10 devices, with a more simplified selection process that only presents two options: ‘Findable everywhere’ and ‘Findable in busy places only’. The former provides a better experience for users and strengthens the Find Hub network.

As of now, it doesn’t appear as though this new menu screen is a consistent thing, with Android Authority reportedly seeing different results when trying on different devices. The same goes for users that have chimed into the news outlet as well. Furthermore, it’s unclear whether the new menu will suggest ‘Findable everywhere’ as the default option.

As stated before, having this setting enabled is crucial in order to make the Find Hub more powerful when trying to locate lost items. If you’ve ordered a new Pixel 10 or are getting ready to open one up, this is something you probably want to look out for.
